History
Electricity
Isle of Wight used to be supplied by 'Southern Electricity Board' for its electricity. However, privatisation in 1990 changed this, liberating the market. Thereafter the company became 'Southern Electric'. This combined with 'Scottish Hydro Electric plc' to create 'Scottish & Southern Energy plc' in 1998. This is the company that we now know as 'SSE'.
Gas
Gas in the Isle of Wight used to be provided by 'Southern Gas Board'; however, after 1973 it became a region of the British Gas Corporation.
