History
Electricity
Before the privatisation of the electricity boards in 1990, Oxford's electricity supply was provided by 'Southern Electricity Board'. After this, it became 'Southern Electric' which merged with 'Scottish Hydro Electric plc' in 1998 to form 'Scottish & Southern Energy plc'. This is the company that we now know as 'SSE'.
Gas
Between the years of 1948 and 1973 gas in Oxford was supplied by 'Southern Gas Board'; however, following 1973 it became a region of the British Gas Corporation.
