History
Electricity
Before privatisation in 1990, Sheffield's electricity supply was provided by the 'Yorkshire Electricity Board' as of 1948. After 1990, the company was rebranded as 'Yorkshire Electricity Group plc' and was acquired by American Electric Power (AEP) and Public Service Company of Colorado (part of Xcel Energy). In 2001, the company was once again bought by Innogy plc for a 94.75% stake, but would eventually become Npower after the final takeover from RWE.
Gas
From 1948 Sheffield's gas supply was distributed by the 'North Eastern Gas Board' until it became a part of the British Gas Corporation in 1972.
