Crown Gas and Power reviews

To get a better understanding of Crown Gas and Power from a customer perspective, we took a look at its online reviews. Although Crown Gas and Power does not have a page on the consumer reviews website Trustpilot, at the time of writing it did hold mostly favourable reviews on Google, with an average rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars.

I have dealt with Crown Gas for over a decade now and have found them very good. The staff are helpful and conscientious (Emerson especially who I deal with the most these days) and any issues are dealt with in a timely fashion. Also, the prices provided are very competitive. Keep up the good work guys!

Chris Langley, Google Reviews

Of the few negative Crown Gas and Power reviews we could find, the most common complaint from dissatisfied customers were the occasional incorrect bill and difficulties getting out of existing contracts.

We moved into a building that has NO GAS on site. 3 months in and Crown send us a GAS BILL saying there is a gas meter on-site and you need to pay a standing charge. We're a struggling charity and they asked for almost £200. We found the meter....boxed off right in the back of the storeroom. They won’t waive the fee, they won’t assist us in any way at all. So now we have to use donations to pay them as we move to Opus Energy who have been absolutely fantastic from day one. Even one star is too high for Crown.

Citizen Advice has ranked Crown Gas and Power 1st out of 17 in its October to December 2020 business energy supplier performance report. The independent supplier outperformed household names such as British Gas and EON, as well as challenger providers including Bulb, BES Utilities and Total Gas and Power to claim the top spot.

Crown Gas and Power green products and services

Concerned about the environmental impact of your business? As well as its basic gas supply tariffs and products, Crown Gas and Power offers a couple of services for the environmentally-conscious customer.

1. Carbon Neutral Gas Contracts

Carbon offsetting is the process of compensating for emissions by investing in projects with a positive impact on the environment, such as reforestation programs.

Customers signing up to Crown Gas and Power Carbon Neutral contracts can have their carbon emissions calculated and offset automatically and are issued with a carbon-neutral certificate to demonstrate their carbon-cutting credentials.

2. Green gas for business

If you’d rather reduce your business’ carbon emissions instead of simply compensating for them, Crown Gas and Power also offers a green gas product.

Crown Gas and Power offers green gas products to suit most budgets, with options of 25%, 50% or 100% biomethane.

What is green gas? Green gas, or biomethane, is an alternative to natural gas sourced from decomposing biodegradable materials such as manure, crops, and other organic matter.

Customers who inherit premises already supplied by Crown Gas and Power or who have terminated their previous Crown Gas and Power contract and are yet to agree to a new deal are automatically placed on ‘deemed' or ‘out of contract' gas rates.

In addition to the unit rate and standing charge that come with any standard energy tariff, Crown Gas and Power’s deemed rates include a daily administration charge to cover any ‘additional expense and risks’ associated with supplying out-of-contract customers.

Crown Gas and Power deemed rates
Daily standing charge Unit rate Daily administration charge
Site-specific: from £1.00 to £300.00 5.2p per kWh 35p

Prices correct as of June 2021. Rates in the table above exclude Climate Change Levy, VAT and any other applicable taxes.

Crown Gas and Power: our verdict

White Selectra tick in a blue box

Crown Gas and Power provides a variety of products and services for businesses of all shapes and sizes. While the supplier does not appear on many consumer rating sites, the overwhelming majority of reviews we did find on Google were positive, and it has topped Citizens Advice’s latest league table for customer satisfaction.

As Crown Gas and Power only currently provides business gas, customers who want both fuels from the same supplier will have to look elsewhere. However, while Crown Gas and Power does not currently provide electricity tariffs, it is one of the few business energy suppliers that does offer a green gas product.

Considering its customer reviews, tariffs and extra service, we award Crown Gas and Power a Selectra score of 3 out of 5 stars.

Selectra Score: ★★★
