History
Electricity
Before privatisation, the electricity in southern wales, including Cardiff, was supplied by the former South Wales Electricity Board. The company was formed in 1948 as a public sector electricity distributor; however, after 1990, the company were forced to go private. The South Wales Electricity Board was eventually acquired by SSE in 2000 who continue to use the same branding for the sale of energy to Wales today.
Gas
From 1948-1973, the gas supply in Cardiff was provided by 'Wales Gas Board' until it became a region of the British Gas Corporation.
