History

Electricity

Before 1990, Plymouth's electricity supply came from 'South Western Electricity Board' (SWEB). After privatisation, however, this company became 'SWEB Energy'. After various takeovers, EDF discontinued the SWEB name in 2003 and sold the company to PPL in 2010 who rebranded it to Western Power Distribution, the company that currently distributes electricity to Plymouth today.

Gas

Between the years of 1948-1973, the gas supply in Plymouth was provided by 'South Western Gas Board'. After this point it became a region of the British Gas Corporation.
