History

Electricity

Before privatisation in 1990, Portsmouth's electricity was supplied by 'Southern Electricity Board'. When this ceased to be the case, 'Southern Electric' was created. This merged with 'Scottish Hydro Electric plc' in 1998 to make 'Scottish & Southern Energy plc', the company that we now know as 'SSE'.

Gas

Between 1948-1973 gas in Portsmouth came from 'Southern Gas Board'. After this point it became an area of the British Gas Corporation.
