History

Electricity

Before privatisation in 1990, Reading's electricity was provided by 'Southern Electricity Board'. It then became 'Southern Electric'. In 1998 'Scottish Hydro Electric' and 'Southern Electric' joined together to form 'Scottish & Southern Energy plc'. This is the company that now trades under the name 'SSE'.

Gas

Gas in Reading used to come from 'Southern Gas Board'; however, after the year 1973, it became a region of the British Gas Corporation.
