History

Electricity

Before the privatisation imposed by Margerat Thatcher's Government in 1990, Liverpools electricity needs were fulfilled by the 'Merseyside and North Wales Electricity Board' (MANWEB). After 1990, the company was privatised as MANWEB plc; however, it was acquired by Scottish Power in 1995. Scottish Power were then also acquired in 2007 but Spanish energy conglomerate 'Iberdrola'.

Gas

Liverpool's gas was provided by the 'North Western Gas Board' from 1949 until 1973 when it became a region of the British Gas Corporation.
