What does Selectra's planning API do?
With its electricity price planning API, Selectra qualifies the consumer and then exposes the price for the coming periods.
Qualification is a simple questionnaire that identifies the customer's electricity tariff: postcode, supplier, tariff and option. The API then determines the tariff and its option (single rate, Economy 7, dynamic, and so on).
The price exposure for the coming periods is a JSON table — a sequence of periods, each with a start date, an end date, a price, the name of the rate band (for example "off-peak") and the matching meter index.
Why does Selectra offer this API?
Selectra has compared electricity offers since 2007. Its founders, Xavier Pinon and Aurian de Maupeou, saw from the start of market liberalisation that offers would grow more complex and that consumers would need better information based on pricing data. The planning API follows the same logic: simplifying a complex subject to support the electrification of energy use.
Selectra operates in 15 countries with a team of 50 energy-market specialists who keep its websites and databases up to date in real time. With more than €100 million in revenue in 2024 and 2,000 employees, it is a credible partner for outsourcing the management of price-planning for your service.
Which countries are covered?
Selectra's planning API is now live in over 100 countries. Across Europe it covers 99% of all published offers — from flat rates and time-of-use tariffs to dynamic and demand-response pricing — and extends well beyond Europe into the Americas, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Oceania.
Worldwide, the API spans over 3,300 suppliers and more than 60,000 tariffs, with new markets added regularly. Coverage focuses on residential and small business segments — the only segments with published prices — as larger power requirements typically receive customised pricing.
And in detail about the UK?
In the United Kingdom, the API covers the published residential offers of the main suppliers. It handles:
- single-rate tariffs;
- Economy 7 and Economy 10 day/night tariffs, whose off-peak windows are set at distributor level;
- prepayment (pay-as-you-go) tariffs;
- a range of smart, EV and off-peak products;
- dynamic, half-hourly tariffs indexed to the wholesale price, such as Octopus Agile.
