History of ENVIRON

Expansion

In its first ten years, the company grew to include six domestic offices on both coasts in the U.S.A. However, with such a strong reputation in the United States, the company quickly began expanding internationally, beginning with the acquisition of a well-reputed UK consultancy (the former European Atlantic Group or EAG) In 1996 and in 2000 the company then later opened new ENVIRON offices in Italy, France, Germany, and Finland. Subsequent European expansion positioned the firm in the Netherlands, Poland, and Spain.

The company also expanded into Asia and the Pacific with additional offices in Australia, China, Malaysia, and Singapore, further enhancing the firm's ability to meet the worldwide needs of an increasingly transnational client base.

Mergers

1999

After an almost 10-year period in the 1990s as a wholly owned subsidiary of publicly traded parent companies, ENVIRON reprivatized with a management buyout. The privatization occured at a time when other companies were doing the opposite by becoming a part of larger publicly traded companies. This meant that ENVIRON had a competitive advantage with which it could attract and retain the most in-demand staff in the sector.

2003

ENVIRON merged with Applied Epidemiology, Inc. (AEI), which brought new services such as epidemiological consulting services in occupational health, environmental health, and injury and disability research to the company. The application of epidemiological concepts and methods provided powerful, data-fueled solutions to a wide array of health risk issues.

2005

ENVIRON merged again with The ADVENT Group, Inc. Again this opened up new opportunities. The ADVENT group is a premier consulting and engineering organization that specializes in Integrated industrial wastewater management and related areas for predominately industrial clients. This merger created a firm uniquely qualified to provide a full range of engineering and technical services to help clients meet their business goals related to water management.

Acquisitions

2007

ENVIRON acquired Boelter Associates, Inc.—the largest single acquisition in the firm's history. The addition of Boelter's professionals allowed ENVIRON to offer clients a wider range of services, particularly in the areas of industrial hygiene and building forensics.

2008

In 2008 ENVIRON acquired the Chicago-based Gustitus Group, Inc. This meant that ENVIRON could begin to provide forensic architectural services and additional Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certified practitioners. These last two acquisitions meant that they could amplify their offer of comprehensive building-related environmental, health, safety and energy-related services to real estate sector clients.

2009

ENVIRON acquired successful Brazilian consultancy ARQUIPÉLAGO Engenharia Ambiental Ltda. (Arquipélago). The acquisition extended the network into Latin America, where significant environmental challenges represented opportunities to enhance the firm's technical capabilities in environmental engineering and carbon management—two key growth areas.

ENVIRON Foundation

In addition to providing commercial services, ENVIRON also supported charitable causes aligned with their ideological values. The ENVIRON Foundation provided financial assistance to endeavours that promoted the protection of human health and a sustainable global environment, particularly related to the impact of chemicals and the use of the Earth's resources. The Foundation funded relevant education programmes, training, applied research, and direct initiatives by not-for-profit organizations.
