British Gas Contact Number: Existing Customers
For all enquiries that you may have regarding your existing account, such as querying a bill or changing the way you pay your bills, the number for British Gas account enquiries will be helpful. Use the phone number 0333 202 9802 during the week from 8am to 8pm, Saturday 8am to 6pm, or Sunday 10am to 4pm.
If you're an existing customer and your query is directly linked to your account, the above number is your first port of call. Bear in mind that the British Gas contact number for account enquiries is not open 24 hours a day. If you can’t find the time to phone when the lines are open, use the My Account service on the British Gas website.
My Account with British Gas is the online gateway to all British Gas domestic services. Managing and paying your bills, monitoring energy usage, submitting meter readings and requesting a smart meter can all be done through My Account. In addition to the more everyday aspects of running your energy account, you can also book a boiler service and sign up to the British Gas Rewards loyalty scheme.
Top up contact number
Having problems topping up your prepayment meter? British Gas customers who have prepayment meters can use the number 0330 100 0303 for any queries related to Pay As You Go billing between 8am -8pm between Monday and Friday and 8am - 6pm on Saturday.
This number will help you with a wide range of queries, including topping up, changing from pay as you go to direct debit and using emergency credit.
Complaints contact number
If for whatever reason you have a complaint that you would like resolved or acknowledged by British Gas, you can communicate this in a number of ways. You can use the general online complaints form or give them a call on the phone number 0333 202 9532 from Monday to Friday 8am-8pm or Saturday from 8am-6pm.

There is a different number for complaints specifically related to Pay As You Go tariffs which is 0333 202 9433. Presumably the idea of having separate complaint phone numbers is not to confuse customers but to streamline the process and get your complaint resolved as efficiently as possible. You can call this phone number from Monday to Friday between 8am-8pm and Saturday 8am-6pm.
British Gas Home Services complaints
British Gas Home Services has its own complaints number and address that are separate from the complaints service for gas and electricity customers. You can call 0333 200 8899 if you have a complaint about any of the British Gas HomeCare products, including annual boiler services, home insurance, cover for electrical and gas appliances, or plumbing and drains cover. The number is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

British Gas HomeCare
For customers who already receive gas and electricity from British Gas, you can contact British Gas home services through your online account. Details of the HomeCare cover plans, booking an annual boiler service and much more can all be accessed through your British Gas My Account.
If you prefer to speak to a real person, you can call 0333 202 9604 Monday to Friday from 8am-8pm or Saturday from 8am-6pm. The number is the same whether you already have one of the British Gas HomeCare products and you’ve got a query or if you are considering becoming a HomeCare customer.
With British Gas HomeCare you can take out cover for any breakdowns or repairs needed for your boiler and central heating system, as well as annual servicing and even electrical appliance repairs. See our guide to British Gas HomeCare for more information.
However, you don’t have to have a HomeCare plan to call out a British Gas engineer for a repair or an annual service on 0330 100 0079. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week you can call to book an annual service or to book an engineer appointment for an urgent breakdown on 0333 200 8899.
For one-off repairs that are less urgent there’s a different number to call: 0333 202 9799. It’s only open Monday to Saturday during the day:
To talk to someone about buying and installing a boiler from British Gas, or replacing a British Gas boiler, call 0333 202 9450 Monday to Friday from 8am-8pm or Saturday from 8am-6pm.
Moving Home with British Gas
If you’re already a British Gas customer and you’re moving house, phone 0333 202 9802 to find out how and when to give your final meter readings and pay your final bill for the house you are leaving.
This is also the number to call to help you set up your new home if you want to continue to receive your energy from British Gas. When you call you’ll need to have a few details to hand: the date you’re moving, your current address and your new address and meter readings from the place you’re moving out of and for your new place.

British Gas customer service numbers
Depending on the type of query you have, there are different customer service numbers to use to contact British Gas in specific circumstances. Unfortunately, there is no single British Gas customer service number that deals with all enquiries.
To direct your query to the right place, it is often more efficient to use the British Gas live chat service, which you’ll find on the Help and Support Frequently Asked Questions pages on the British Gas website.

Contact British Gas as a new customer
If you’re not a British Gas customer but you want to find out more about their energy tariffs, you can phone between 8am and 8pm during the week, or between 8am and 6pm on Saturdays on 0333 202 9505. British Gas gives its call centre staff a day off on Sundays so make sure you call Monday to Saturday.
Instead of phoning, you can go to the British Gas website at any time of the day or night. You’ll find useful information about joining British Gas as a new customer. To get a quote for gas, electricity or dual fuel tariffs you just need to enter your postcode and state if you currently pay your energy bills quarterly, by monthly direct debit or on a pre-pay meter.
You’ll get a more accurate quote if you also know how much energy you usually use in kilowatt hours (kWh). You’ll find this information on your past gas and electricity bills.
