It’s good to know how you’ll be treated by Fairerpower and what your experience will be like as a customer after you switch.
We looked at the following review websites to get an idea of their service:
Trustpilot has 2 reviews with a score of 5.4 out of 10. The reviews were from people who were considering switching provider to Fairerpower and not customers. One reviewer said that they were “unable to get a quote” due to the fact that they didn’t want to give their telephone number to the customer service representative. Apparently this was necessary in order to find the best tariff for them. This seems unlikely as prices are defined by region and tariff type, and your telephone number isn’t necessary to find out that information.
The other reviewer said that they wouldn’t have saved any money by switching from one of the big 6 energy companies. Fairerpower gave them a quote that was 33% more expensive than their existing tariff. However the reviewer did not explain that he would be getting 33% of his energy from renewables with Fairerpower and with EDF he got only 8%, well below the national average. Of course, those renewables come at a cost premium, which explains the higher price.
Tariffs & Prices
Fairerpower offers fixed rate, variable and prepayment (pay as you go) tariffs and they are only available to residents in the Cheshire and Lancashire area. They do not currently supply gas and energy tariffs to businesses.
Their tariffs are listed in the table below. Please note that you can get economy 7 on all their tariffs and prepayment is only available on pay as you go.
Customers on fixed term or variable rate contracts will not be charged exit fees for leaving their contract early.

Pay As You Go
Fairerpower works in partnership with Ovo Energy who supply the energy to households. So where your energy comes from will depend on what Ovo buy from the energy market. The current Fairerpower fuel mix is 84.6% natural gas and 15.4% renewables. If you are a new customer switching to Fairerpower or Ovo Energy you will receive at least 33% renewable electricity (79% from wind farms, 11% solar and 10% landfill gas).
Fairerpower is a not-for-profit supplier of gas and electricity founded in 2015. It was set up by Cheshire east council and provides energy to residents in the Cheshire area. Lancashire residents can also receive electricity from Fairerpower, where it operates under the name Fairerpower Red Rose. Cheshire East council partnered with Ovo Energy, another independent gas and electricity supplier, in order to provide a local alternative to the Big Six gas and electricity companies.
Smart meters are installed as standard to customers on a prepayment tariff. Fairerpower customers on fixed and variable rate tariffs can arrange to have a smart meter installed at their request.
