Pros & cons
Selectra verdict
For the small number of Guernsey households that depend on gas, Guernsey Gas is the only option. The supplier handles emergencies and routine servicing competently, but the gap between LPG and electricity costs has widened over the last several years and is worth modelling carefully before any boiler replacement.
Customers most often lose money by signing long-term service plans without comparing to private Gas Safe engineers, or by paying for bulk-tank refills at standing-order pricing rather than negotiating each delivery. For complaints that cannot be resolved internally, the Guernsey Competition and Regulatory Authority (GCRA) is the escalation route.

Engineer was prompt and professional
Pilot light kept going out in the boiler. Phoned the office, an engineer was at the door the next morning. He diagnosed the issue, replaced the part and ran a full safety check. Polite, neat and clear on what he did. Very happy.
— Pauline, St Peter Port
Selectra expert comment
The field engineering operation is the consistent strength of Guernsey Gas. For routine faults the response time is competitive with much larger GB suppliers. Save the office and emergency numbers in your phone in advance, particularly if you depend on gas for heating or hot water.
Energy Centre staff knew their stuff
Wanted to replace a 15-year-old combi. Walked into the Energy Centre at Admiral Park and the team showed me three options with clear specs and warranty terms. They quoted within a week and the install went without drama.
— Michael, Castel
Selectra expert comment
The Energy Centre showroom is a genuinely useful resource for boiler replacement, particularly in older Guernsey properties where flue regulations or LPG-conversion details matter. We still recommend a second quote from an independent Gas Safe engineer for any install above £3,000.
Bulk tank pricing is opaque
Live in a rural property on a bulk LPG tank. Every refill seems to come at a different rate and the bills are hard to compare year on year. Customer services explained the index but it still feels like a guessing game.
— Lisa, St Sampson
Selectra expert comment
Bulk LPG pricing follows wholesale indices that move week to week, so refill prices genuinely do vary. Ask Guernsey Gas in writing for the indexation formula and reset frequency, and keep a spreadsheet of delivery dates and unit rates. For bulk-tank customers, scheduling refills outside winter peak can sometimes save 5% to 10% per delivery.
Gas bills painful
Winter quarter was £680 for a three-bed cottage. Cooking and central heating only. Compared to mainland family on natural gas, this feels excessive. The service itself has been fine.
— David, Vale
Selectra expert comment
LPG pricing on Guernsey is structurally higher per kWh than mainland natural gas because of the shipping and storage costs. For households facing winter bills above £500, it is worth modelling an air-source heat pump against ten more years of LPG, including any States of Guernsey grant schemes for low-carbon heating.
Service plan auto-renewed at higher cost
Found out the maintenance plan had rolled over at a higher monthly fee. Asked to revert to the previous price, told that was no longer offered. Cancelled and went private for the next service.
— Helen, St Andrew
Selectra expert comment
Service-plan auto-renewals are a recurring complaint. Diary the renewal date when you sign and contact Guernsey Gas at least 30 days before the anniversary to negotiate or cancel. Private Gas Safe engineers on Guernsey can be materially cheaper for an annual service if you do not need bundled emergency cover.
Helpful in person, slow on email
Phoned about an account transfer. Friendly but slow. Walked into the Energy Centre next day and it was sorted in fifteen minutes. Take the walk-in route if you can.
— Tony, St Martin
Selectra expert comment
The pattern repeats across small-island utilities: walk-in service consistently outperforms phone or email channels. For any non-emergency query involving account changes, tariff decisions or service plans, the Energy Centre at Admiral Park is the most efficient channel.
Selectra editorial takeaway
Reading the six reviews together, Guernsey Gas presents a familiar small-island monopoly pattern: strong on field engineering and walk-in service, weaker on bulk-tank pricing transparency and service-plan administration. The 5-star reviews are about engineers and the showroom; the lower-star reviews concentrate on billing opacity and auto-renewals.
Because there is no competing gas supplier, the practical playbook is to keep a tight grip on the relationship: log every contact, diary service-plan renewals, request the LPG indexation formula in writing, and use the Energy Centre rather than the phone line for any complex query.
Selectra explains
Author: Selectra UK energy team · Updated April 2026
Guernsey Gas serves the smallest gas customer base in the Channel Islands (around 10,000 households), so its online review footprint is small. The signals across Trustpilot, Google Maps and the Guernsey Press are consistent: strong scores on the field engineering team and the Admiral Park showroom, weaker scores on bulk-tank pricing transparency and service-plan auto-renewals.
Channel
5-star reviews cluster around engineer call-outs and boiler installs. Lower-star reviews concentrate on bulk-tank pricing and service-plan renewals.
Channel
Showroom reviews are consistently more positive than phone-channel reviews. Walk-in service remains the most reliable contact route.
Channel
Coverage focuses on Channel Islands LPG price changes and IEG corporate announcements. Reporting is factual and Guernsey Gas engages on the record.
Channel
Annual reports cover the bailiwick's gas market alongside electricity. The GCRA remains the formal escalation route for unresolved disputes.
Selectra expert verdict
For a small-island gas monopoly, Guernsey Gas's online reputation is broadly defensible. Operational engineering scores well, billing transparency is the weak point. The practical playbook for customers is to be proactive: walk-in for complex queries, request the LPG indexation formula in writing, and diary service-plan renewals.

Common questions
Guernsey Gas is regulated by Ofgem and bound by the Standards of Conduct that protect domestic customers. Reliability is best judged against your own usage profile: read recent reviews, check the Citizens Advice star rating for Guernsey Gas, and confirm the supplier's customer-service hours match when you actually need to call.
Trustpilot, Google Maps and app-store reviews reflect real experiences but are often skewed toward dissatisfied customers (people only post when something goes wrong). The most balanced single rating is Citizens Advice's quarterly supplier performance table, which scores all UK domestic suppliers on complaint handling, transfers, debt and communication — and is built from regulator-supplied data, not self-reported.
Confirm the unit rate (p/kWh) for both gas and electricity, the daily standing charge, the contract length, any exit fee (typical range: £25-£75 per fuel), and whether the deal requires a smart meter. Always cross-check the headline price against several other suppliers based on your actual postcode and annual kWh consumption from a recent bill.
If you're a current or former Guernsey Gas customer, share your experience on Trustpilot UK (search the supplier name), Google Maps (write a review on the Guernsey Gas business profile), or the Apple App Store and Google Play if you've used the mobile app. Selectra also collects independent reviews to help future customers compare suppliers objectively.
