Every Manx Gas tariff available right now — unit rate, standing charge, contract length, exit fee and renewable status. Last verified 1 July 2025 (no change at January 2026).

The Isle of Man is a Crown Dependency outside the GB Energy Price Cap. Manx Gas tariffs are set by the company and approved in advance by CURA, the Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority. Following CURA’s December 2025 review, gas prices remain unchanged at the start of 2026, with the next mid-year review scheduled for June 2026. All unit rates below include 5% VAT at the domestic rate but exclude the 1% direct-debit discount. There are no exit fees on Manx Gas domestic tariffs.

Selectra expert

Which Manx Gas tariff fits you, and what will you actually pay?

Manx Gas publishes seven domestic tariffs, organised in three pairs (mains vs LPG) plus an optional 4Gen Gas carbon-reduction add-on. The right pick is dictated by where you live (mains-natural-gas footprint or off-mains LPG) and what you use gas for (full central heating, gas fire only, or cooking only). The unit-rate and standing-charge gaps are wide: getting the cooking-only customer onto a CH tariff (or vice versa) easily costs £100 to £200 a year.

Mains Gas Central Heating (Banding A)

variable · mains

Best fit if — Mains natural-gas households running gas for central heating, hot water and cooking on the same supply, the default plan for most Douglas, Onchan, Ramsey and Castletown homes.

Skip if — You only use gas for cooking or a gas fire, the dedicated cooking (NA) or fire (NB) tariff will be cheaper at low usage.

What you'll actually pay

10.287 p/kWh + 16.8958 p/day standing charge. On a typical 11,500 kWh annual usage that works out at about £1,245 a year including VAT.

The right starting point for any Isle of Man mains-CH household. Set up the 1% direct-debit discount as soon as the account is open.

LPG Central Heating, mini-bulk / cylinder

variable · off-mains

Best fit if — Off-mains households on metered mini-bulk LPG or 47-kg cylinders running gas central heating and hot water.

Skip if — You only need gas for cooking or an occasional gas fire, the LPG cooking (AK/CA) or fire (BK/CB1) tariff fits better.

What you'll actually pay

10.287 p/kWh + 17.7075 p/day (mini-bulk) or 19.3218 p/day (47-kg cylinder). On 11,500 kWh that is about £1,275 to £1,890 a year depending on supply type.

The standard pick for off-mains CH customers. Mini-bulk has the lower standing charge, so it usually beats cylinders for any household using gas year-round.

Natural Gas Cooking (NA)

variable · mains

Best fit if — Mains natural-gas households using gas only for cooking (no CH, no hot water, no gas fire). Zero daily standing charge, so you pay nothing on no-use days.

Skip if — You also have gas central heating or a gas fire, the higher 14.0112 p/kWh unit rate will quickly outweigh the saving from the nil standing charge.

What you'll actually pay

14.0112 p/kWh, no standing charge. A cooking-only household using ~600 kWh a year pays about £84 a year.

The cheapest tariff for genuinely cooking-only customers. Re-check annually that nothing else has been added to the supply (e.g. a new gas fire).

Natural Gas Fire (NB)

variable · mains

Best fit if — Mains natural-gas households where the only gas appliance is a gas fire, used seasonally. Modest standing charge keeps the unit rate down vs the cooking-only plan.

Skip if — You also have a gas hob, combine the loads and check whether the cooking-only NA tariff or the central-heating Banding A tariff suits you better.

What you'll actually pay

11.8976 p/kWh + 6.0242 p/day standing charge. A gas-fire-only household using ~1,500 kWh a year pays about £200 a year.

A tight niche, useful if you have only the gas fire on the supply, not really worth it once a hob or boiler joins the load.

LPG Cooking (AK / CA)

variable · off-mains

Best fit if — Off-mains rural households cooking on metered LPG, with no CH or fire on the supply. Zero standing charge, you pay only for delivered gas.

Skip if — Your annual LPG use exceeds ~2,000 kWh, the unit-rate gap with the CH tariff will eclipse the standing-charge saving.

What you'll actually pay

17.2326 p/kWh, no standing charge. A cooking-only LPG household using ~600 kWh pays about £103 a year.

The right plan for off-mains hob-only customers, especially second homes and small rural cottages.

LPG Gas Fire (BK / CB1)

variable · off-mains

Best fit if — Off-mains households where the only gas appliance is a gas fire on a metered LPG supply.

Skip if — Your gas use is full year-round CH, the LPG CH plan is cheaper at any meaningful annual usage.

What you'll actually pay

12.6294 p/kWh + 6.0242 p/day standing charge. On ~1,500 kWh a year that works out at about £212 a year.

A clear winner for the niche it is built for, but easy to outgrow if a second gas appliance is later installed.

4Gen Gas (add-on)

opt-in · mains or LPG

Best fit if — Customers who want to match their gas use against certified green gas without leaving Manx Gas, surcharge is fixed per kg of CO&sub2; offset.

Skip if — You are already on a tight budget, the natural-gas surcharge averages 55p a day (about £200/year), the LPG surcharge averages £2 a day (about £730/year).

What you'll actually pay

+10p per kg CO&sub2; (natural gas) or +32p per kg CO&sub2; (LPG), billed monthly on top of the underlying tariff.

A sensible step for households who care about the carbon footprint of their gas without changing supplier. Confirm the daily uplift against your latest annual bill before opting in.

All Manx Gas tariffs include 5% VAT at the domestic rate. A 1% direct-debit discount applies to the cost of gas consumed (not to the standing charge) for customers paying by direct debit. Conversions: each litre of LPG mini-bulk delivers 7.08 kWh; each 47-kg cylinder delivers 652.95 kWh. Tariff schedule effective 1 July 2025 with no January 2026 change confirmed by CURA in December 2025; the next CURA review is scheduled for June 2026.

How to compare UK tariffs

Three numbers that decide your bill

  1. 1

Unit rate (p/kWh) — the cost of the energy you actually use. The Energy Price Cap caps the unit rate on the default (Standard Variable) tariff. Fixed tariffs are usually slightly above or below the cap.

  2. 2

Standing charge (p/day) — what you pay per day even if you use zero energy. Covers network costs, smart-meter rollout and policy levies. About 53p/day for electricity and 32p/day for gas on a typical 2026 tariff.

  3. 3

Exit fee — what you pay to leave early on a fixed tariff. Typically £25-£75 per fuel. None on Standard Variable. None in the final 49 days of any fixed contract.

Is Manx Gas the cheapest for your usage?

Headline rates lie. The only way to know is to compare against your real annual kWh. Selectra's comparison uses your postcode + 12-month usage to find the cheapest current deal.

Common questions

UK energy tariffs — frequently asked questions

Every UK domestic energy tariff has two components: a standing charge (a flat fee in pence per day, even if you use zero energy), and a unit rate (in pence per kWh you actually consume). Your bill = (standing charge × days) + (unit rate × kWh used) + VAT (5%). Compare both numbers — a tariff with a low unit rate but a high standing charge can cost more than the reverse if you use little energy.

The Energy Price Cap set by Ofgem limits how much suppliers can charge for the default (Standard Variable) tariff. It is reviewed every three months. It does not cap fixed-term tariffs — those can be cheaper or more expensive than the cap depending on wholesale prices.

Most UK fixed-term tariffs include an exit fee (typical range: £25-£75 per fuel) if you switch before the contract ends. You can switch without an exit fee in the last 49 days of your contract. The default Standard Variable tariff has no exit fee.

Many UK suppliers offer 'green' or '100% renewable' tariffs which match your annual consumption with REGO certificates. This is a paper-trail match, not a guarantee that the electrons reaching your home are renewable — but it does fund continued renewable generation. Tariffs marked '100% renewable' below carry REGO backing.

If wholesale prices are forecast to rise, fixing locks in today's price for the contract length. If they are forecast to fall, the Standard Variable tariff (capped by Ofgem) tracks the wholesale market down. The right choice depends on your appetite for stability vs. potential savings — Selectra's comparison tool factors in both.
