Outfox Energy tariffs

Every Outfox Energy tariff available right now — unit rate, standing charge, contract length, exit fee and renewable status. Last verified May 2026.

Outfox Energy's flagship product is a price-cap tracker — the unit rate and standing charge are set 5% below the published Ofgem Energy Price Cap and reset each quarter (1 January, 1 April, 1 July, 1 October). The supplier also runs a small portfolio of fixed-term deals, a time-of-use EV tariff (My EV 1.0) and a variable Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) tariff for solar exporters. No tariff carries an exit fee or a minimum contract period. Rates below are typical-region (East England) approximations at the Q2 2026 cap level, exc. VAT — your real rate depends on your postcode and your meter type. Download the live Tariff Information Label from outfox.energy for the exact figures in your region.

Selectra expert

Which Outfox Energy tariff fits you, and what will you actually pay?

Outfox's tariff portfolio is built around one strong idea: track the Ofgem cap, then sit a fixed 5% below it. Everything else in the line-up (fixed deals, EV tariff, SEG) is built around that core promise. The cards below show who each tariff fits, what it costs at Q2 2026 cap levels, and when to switch out. Figures assume a typical 2,700 kWh electricity + 11,500 kWh gas dual-fuel household, East England region.

Outfox the Price Cap (cap-tracker)

variable · flagship

Best fit if — You want the simplest possible way to beat the default-tariff cap without watching the wholesale market or shopping around every 12 months. You like a single rule (5% below the cap, every quarter) and you do not want to be locked into a fixed term.

Skip if — You're convinced wholesale prices will fall sharply in the next 12 months and you want to ride a cheaper fixed deal down, or you have a non-standard meter (Economy 10, dynamic teleswitched, two-rate import/export) that the cap-tracker rate book does not cover cleanly.

What you'll actually pay

About £1,560 a year on a typical East-England dual-fuel household at the Q2 2026 cap level — roughly £80 below the Ofgem cap. Unit rate ~23.47p/kWh electricity, ~5.42p/kWh gas, standing charges 54.34p and 27.65p/day. Rates reset every quarter in line with the cap.

The default choice. Strong, simple, no exit fee — most Outfox customers should be on this and only move if a sharper fixed deal appears.

One Year Fixed — Dual Fuel

fixed · 12 months

Best fit if — You want budget certainty — the rate is locked for 12 months regardless of how the cap moves. Crucially, Outfox carries no exit fee even on a fix, so you can still leave for a cheaper deal mid-contract without penalty.

Skip if — You think the cap is more likely to fall than rise over the next 12 months — a fall would leave the fixed rate stranded above the tracker rate.

What you'll actually pay

About £1,545 a year on a typical East-England dual-fuel household. Unit rate ~22.95p/kWh electricity, ~5.30p/kWh gas, same standing charges as the tracker.

A genuine fixed deal with the optionality of a tracker — unusual in the UK market and worth the small premium over the cap-tracker if you value budget stability.

My EV 1.0

variable · time-of-use

Best fit if — You drive an EV, charge mostly overnight, and have a working SMETS2 smart meter that exports half-hourly data. The off-peak window is heavily discounted (~10p/kWh) versus a flat cap-tracker rate (~23p/kWh).

Skip if — You don't have a SMETS2 smart meter, your meter is in a DCC signal blackspot, or you can't shift the bulk of your charging into the off-peak window — the peak-rate hours are noticeably more expensive than the flat tracker.

What you'll actually pay

Strongly dependent on your charging pattern. A typical 8,000-mile-a-year EV charging 80% overnight saves £200-£350 a year on the electricity portion vs the flat tracker. The headline saving evaporates fast if peak-rate usage rises above ~40% of total kWh.

The most differentiated tariff in the Outfox portfolio. Match it to your real charging hours, not the marketing.

Outfox Export (SEG variable)

variable · solar / SEG

Best fit if — You've installed solar PV, onshore wind, hydro, micro-CHP or AD generation and want to be paid for the surplus you export. The tariff has no standing charge — every exported kWh earns the Export Rate.

Skip if — You're a high self-consumer who exports very little (in which case the value of any SEG tariff is marginal and you should focus on a generous import tariff instead), or you want a fixed export rate (Outfox's is variable).

What you'll actually pay

Earnings depend on the export volume. A typical 4 kWp solar array exporting 1,500 kWh/year at ~4.5p/kWh export earns approximately £68 a year, paid quarterly within 5 working days of each billing date.

A reasonable, no-frills SEG home for Outfox import customers. Always compare against Octopus Outgoing, OVO and E.ON Next Export — fixed-rate SEG deals can pay more if you export heavily.

All figures assume a typical 2,700 kWh electricity + 11,500 kWh gas dual-fuel household at East-England Q2 2026 cap levels. Outfox prices are regional and reset each quarter — your real rate depends on your postcode and your meter type. Always run a quote on the live Outfox quote tool before signing.

How to compare UK tariffs

Three numbers that decide your bill

  1. 1

Unit rate (p/kWh) — the cost of the energy you actually use. The Energy Price Cap caps the unit rate on the default (Standard Variable) tariff. Fixed tariffs are usually slightly above or below the cap.

  2. 2

Standing charge (p/day) — what you pay per day even if you use zero energy. Covers network costs, smart-meter rollout and policy levies. About 53p/day for electricity and 32p/day for gas on a typical 2026 tariff.

  3. 3

Exit fee — what you pay to leave early on a fixed tariff. Typically £25-£75 per fuel. None on Standard Variable. None in the final 49 days of any fixed contract.

Is Outfox the cheapest for your usage?

Headline rates lie. The only way to know is to compare against your real annual kWh. Selectra's comparison uses your postcode + 12-month usage to find the cheapest current deal.

Common questions

UK energy tariffs — frequently asked questions

Every UK domestic energy tariff has two components: a standing charge (a flat fee in pence per day, even if you use zero energy), and a unit rate (in pence per kWh you actually consume). Your bill = (standing charge × days) + (unit rate × kWh used) + VAT (5%). Compare both numbers — a tariff with a low unit rate but a high standing charge can cost more than the reverse if you use little energy.

The Energy Price Cap set by Ofgem limits how much suppliers can charge for the default (Standard Variable) tariff. It is reviewed every three months. It does not cap fixed-term tariffs — those can be cheaper or more expensive than the cap depending on wholesale prices.

Most UK fixed-term tariffs include an exit fee (typical range: £25-£75 per fuel) if you switch before the contract ends. You can switch without an exit fee in the last 49 days of your contract. The default Standard Variable tariff has no exit fee.

Many UK suppliers offer 'green' or '100% renewable' tariffs which match your annual consumption with REGO certificates. This is a paper-trail match, not a guarantee that the electrons reaching your home are renewable — but it does fund continued renewable generation. Tariffs marked '100% renewable' below carry REGO backing.

If wholesale prices are forecast to rise, fixing locks in today's price for the contract length. If they are forecast to fall, the Standard Variable tariff (capped by Ofgem) tracks the wholesale market down. The right choice depends on your appetite for stability vs. potential savings — Selectra's comparison tool factors in both.
