FAQs for Woodland Trust Energy customers

Woodland Trust Energy customers are now supplied by Ovo Energy. Information in this guide is no longer being updated since the closure of Woodland Energy. All information presented here is for reference purposes only and was correct at the time of original posting. For more information please contact Ovo Energy directly or visit Selectra’s guide to Ovo Energy.

1) What happened to Woodland Trust Energy?

Similar to Fairerpower, Woodland Trust Energy functioned as a “white label” agreement in partnership with Ovo Energy, in which the latter supplied the energy under the Woodland Trust brand name. Through the partnership, 2.5% of each customer's annual bill was donated to Woodland Trust to protect woodland and wildlife throughout the UK.

The partnership ended in 2015, but customers continue to be supplied by Ovo. Although Woodland Trust and Ovo no longer have a partnership, Woodland Trust still continues its conservation work.

2) My account was in credit. Will I get my money back?

Your credit balance with Woodland Trust Energy will be honoured by Ovo. Customers with a credit balance equal to or greater than £25 can ask for a refund via the supplier’s online portal.

3) Will I have to pay more with my new supplier?

Former Woodland Trust Energy customers should have received their new rates from their new suppleir. If you have not signed up for a new tariff, you’re likely on a standard variable tariff (which tends to be the most expensive).

4) How do I contact my new energy supplier?

Woodland Trust Energy customers should contact Ovo for any questions regarding their account.

5) I don't want to be with Ovo. Can I switch to a different energy supplier?

Former Woodland Trust Energy customers are not obliged to stay with the new supplier. You should not be charged exit fees to leave unless you have signed a new tariff with Ovo.

Woodland Trust Energy review

world in hands

Woodland Trust Energy brought together Woodland Trust and Ovo Energy in a partnership which aimed to provide renewable energy and also helped save British woodland. Woodland Trust Energy had a number of benefits for environmentally conscious consumers. The money raised from the campaign was enough to plant more than 8,000 trees annually.

Woodland Trust Energy is no longer in operation; however, there are currently a number of tariffs available with other suppliers for consumers who are interested in environmental issues.

The voluntary Green Energy Certification scheme, which is set up by Ofgem, endorses various companies. Some companies which consumers may be interested in include: Ecotricity, Good Energy and Green Energy UK.

What tariffs did the supplier offer?

Woodland Trust Energy had two different green tariffs which used varying levels of renewable energy: The New Energy Plan and The Green Energy Plan. Both of the tariffs were fixed tariffs, meaning that the rates were guaranteed for the duration of the contract. Customers will be pleased to know that their new energy supplier provides 100% renewable energy for all its tariffs.
