How we rank UK energy tariffs

Four criteria, weighted by what changes your bill the most. No supplier can buy a higher ranking.

Price (unit + standing)

Heaviest

Both unit rate (p/kWh) and standing charge are compared across every UK region. We use the supplier's published list price, never a one-off promotion.

Plan terms

Heavy

Fixed vs variable, exit fees, prompt-payment discount, Economy 7, smart-meter requirement and any conditions on green or EV tariffs.

Greenness

Medium

Renewable share of the supplier's fuel mix, REGOs vs PPAs, time-of-use tariffs and EV plans like Octopus Go or Intelligent Octopus.

Customer service

Medium

Trustpilot, Citizens Advice supplier league table, complaints data from the Energy Ombudsman, response times and contact channels.
