Ageas travel insurance cover and policies in 2026
Ageas does not sell travel insurance direct to consumers. Cover is arranged by Ageas Insurance Ltd as underwriter, and distributed in the UK through brokers, intermediary firms and high-profile partner brands. The biggest partner brands selling Ageas-underwritten travel insurance are Age UK Insurance, John Lewis Finance and several specialist medical-condition brokers. Ageas is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
Unlike most UK travel insurers, Ageas offers a single comprehensive policy rather than tiered Bronze/Silver/Gold cover. The base policy is generous (medical to £20m, cancellation to £5,000) and customers add optional extras for winter sports, business equipment, wedding cover, etc.

Heads-up on adventure sportsAgeas's standard sports list covers hiking up to 2,500 m, off-piste skiing only with a qualified guide, and scuba diving up to 30 m with a qualification. Above those limits you need the Hazardous Activities pack; always check before you go.
Ageas travel insurance prices in 2026
Because Ageas sells through brokers and partner brands, prices vary by intermediary. The figures below show typical Ageas-underwritten quotes for a 35-year-old with no medical conditions, Europe-only annual cover, sourced from the major UK partner brands (Age UK, John Lewis Finance and brokers). Ageas is generally mid-market on price: it does not undercut Asda or Admiral on Bronze-equivalent cover, but its base policy is closer in cover to a Gold/Platinum tier elsewhere.
| Policy (Ageas-underwritten) | UK average | Ageas via partner brand |
|---|---|---|
| Annual Europe (35-year-old) | £78 | £88 |
| Annual Worldwide ex USA/Canada | £128 | £138 |
| Annual Worldwide inc USA/Canada | £185 | £198 |
| Single-trip 2 weeks USA | £72 | £82 |
| Long-stay 6 months Asia (gap year) | £325 | £298 |

Because Ageas does not appear on price-comparison sites, the cheapest Ageas-underwritten quote may sit behind a broker you have never heard of. Always run a quote through Age UK or John Lewis and a specialist broker before settling.
Ageas travel insurance cancellation policy
Ageas-underwritten travel insurance follows the same 14-day cooling-off rule as the rest of the UK market. Your full premium is refunded if all of the following apply:
- You cancel within 14 days of receiving your policy documents.
- You have not made, and do not intend to make, a claim.
- No incident has occurred that may lead to a claim.
- You have not started travelling.
After the 14-day cooling-off period, you can still cancel the policy but you will not receive any refund. Cancellation must be confirmed in writing or by phone via your broker or the partner brand. The broker administration fee, set by the broker, is normally non-refundable.
Ageas travel insurance customer service
Ageas uses different phone lines depending on what you need and which broker sold the policy. The emergency assistance number is the one to programme into your phone before you fly, it is the only line that operates 24/7 worldwide. For all other queries, your first port of call is the broker whose name is on your policy schedule.

What customers like
- 5-star Defaqto rating on the base policy, generous medical, cancellation and baggage limits.
- One policy, optional extras approach is simpler than choosing between three named tiers.
- Long-stay and business cover available where many high-street insurers stop at 94 days.
- Niche extras such as wedding-abroad cover are difficult to find at other UK insurers.
- Low complaints ratio on FCA data versus most general insurers.
Common criticism
- Broker-only distribution: cannot be bought direct and does not appear on price-comparison sites, making quote-shopping harder.
- Broker fees: most brokers charge a one-off arrangement fee of £25–£75 on top of the Ageas premium.
- Inconsistent service: claims service depends on the broker, not Ageas, so quality varies widely.
- No direct online account: policy changes must go through the broker rather than a self-service portal.
Selectra's verdict on Ageas travel insurance in 2026
Strengths: 5-star Defaqto base policy, £20m medical cover as standard, long-stay and business cover, niche extras like wedding-abroad, and a low FCA complaints ratio.
Weaknesses: broker-only distribution, broker arrangement fees, inconsistent claims service depending on the partner brand and no self-service online account.
Ageas-underwritten travel insurance is one of the strongest base policies on the UK market, but you can only buy it through a broker or a partner brand. If you are over 50, the easiest way in is via Age UK Insurance. For everyone else, run an Ageas quote through John Lewis Finance or a specialist broker, and compare against AA, Admiral and Asda in our UK insurance providers guide.

Yes. The Ageas base policy covers emergency medical treatment overseas, repatriation costs and accommodation if you test positive for Covid-19 abroad.
