This document is Chapter 9, ‘Evaluation of Climate Models’, from ‘Climate Change 2013: The Physical Science Basis’ — the Working Group I contribution to the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Its coordinating lead authors are Gregory Flato and Jochem Marotzke, with a wider team of lead and contributing authors.

The chapter assesses how well climate models reproduce the observed behaviour of the climate system, which is central to judging the confidence that can be placed in their projections.
