What this document is

This is the Summary for Policymakers (SPM) of Working Group II’s volume of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). Working Group II deals with impacts, adaptation and vulnerability — that is, how a changing climate affects natural and human systems, and how societies can adjust. The document was released as part of the WGII AR5 Phase I report launch on 31 March 2014.

The summary was prepared by a large international team of drafting authors, including Christopher B. Field, Vicente R. Barros, Michael D. Mastrandrea and Katharine J. Mach, alongside dozens of contributors from around the world. As an IPCC Summary for Policymakers, its text is approved line by line by member governments. This copy is the approved version pending copyedit.
