About
Who is BT Mobile?
BT Mobile is the consumer mobile brand of BT Group plc, the UK’s former incumbent telco. It was originally launched as BT Cellnet in 1985, spun out as O2 in 2001, and then re-entered the consumer market in 2014 as an MVNO on the EE network.
In 2016, BT acquired EE outright in a £12.5 billion deal, bringing EE’s 4G and 5G network in-house. Since then, BT Mobile has been the “family” mobile brand for BT broadband and TV customers, and EE has been the standalone consumer brand. From 2023, BT has progressively moved new sales channels onto the EE brand, but existing BT Mobile contracts continue to operate normally.
BT Group is listed on the London Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange and is regulated by Ofcom. Complaint handling falls under the Ombudsman Services: Communications scheme.
