EE mobile is the self-proclaimed number one network in the UK, but what do you get as an EE customer? What would you like to know about EE? We talk EE customer service, reviews, 5G capability, benefits, EE upgrades, prices, SIM only deals and the list goes on. We’ve got you covered with a comprehensive look at everything EE mobile.

EE mobile reviews

EE mobile was so successful that they were confident enough to amalgamate Orange and T-mobile under the EE banner, but how well do they hold up under review? EE mobile scored only one out of five stars on popular customer review site Trustpilot, however it is important to note that these reviews are often mixed in with the reviews for EE broadband. One out of five stars sounds pretty abysmal right? Well, to give some context, Sky mobile,O2, Pop, Vodafone, Tesco mobile and Three all score either one or two stars out of five overall.

In their report on the main providers (Virgin Mobile, Vodafone, Tesco mobile, Three, O2) UK telecom regulator Ofcom revealed that 93% of EE mobile customers were satisfied with their provider, the average customer satisfaction rate amongst providers. Of customers surveyed only 2% had a reason to complain, which is 2% lower than the average across the providers. In addition to this, 58% of those surveyed were satisfied with the complaint handling they received, which may sound low but it’s actually 2% higher than the industry average.

EE mobile: what are the benefits?

Benefits tick

The UK mobile provider market is a very competitive one, so what is EE mobile offering to make itself stand out from the rest? We’ve put together a list of the top 7 perks being offered to EE mobile customers.

1.Data gifting

EE has a great benefit for families or groups. Data gifting allows customers to add family members on their account and move their data around amongst the group. This is an ingenious way to keep little munchkins entertained or to prevent data wastage.

2.Data caps

Ever been bitten by a nasty phone bill? EE has found a way to make mobile plans a little less scary by adding a data cap. This stops you from overspending on your data usage by making it impossible to go over your limit. You’ll also get an alert via text when you’ve nearly reached the limit of your allowance. If you’re in need of extra data it can be added via My EE.

3.My EE - monitor your usage

Monitor your usage laptop

My EE is the provider’s online portal as well as a mobile app. We’ve established that you can add more data via My EE but what else can you do?

  • Pay your bills
  • Monitor your talk, text and data usage
  • Top up your credit for pay as you go users
  • Gift data between users on your account
  • Get a better price in the EE shop
  • Manage your mobile device
  • Manage home broadband if you’re an EE broadband customer
  • See what upgrades you might be eligible for

Here at Selectra, we recommend always giving your phone providers’ online portal or app a try if you can. Not only can it save you precious time on a telephone hotline, but it can empower you by being more informed about your exact usage every month.

To register for My EE you’ll need to add your name, email address and a password. Once you’ve created your account you can add your device by entering in your mobile number. Once that’s complete all you’ll have to do is verify your email address. Sorted!

4.EE upgrade

You don’t have to wait until the end of your contract to upgrade your phone with EE. If you’re switching onto any plan higher than your current plan you won’t have to pay an early upgrade fee. If this isn’t exciting enough you can also trade in your old phone and get money for it.

If you’re on a smart plan you will be able to upgrade from 15 days into your plan if you trade in your current phone. You may, however, need to pay in upgrade fee for this.

5. 5G on EE

5G network

EE is making strides by releasing it’s 5G network in 2019. But what are the benefits of going from a 4G to a 5G network? The 5G network boasts the ability to provide better quality coverage in busy places and large crowds as well as providing more bandwidth, which results in faster download speeds. You can also hope to get an almost instant connection to apps, webpages, games and so on without a lag.

Before you get too excited about signing up for a 5G SIM or phone plan make sure you take into account when the network will actually be available in your area. The rollout will only begin with select locations across the UK, namely, London, Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Manchester and Birmingham, with view of adding more locations later in 2019.

If you’re not in a 5G area or you’re happy to stay on a 4G network then, with EE, you’d be receiving the fastest download speed on a 4G network across the UK. Not too shabby at all!

4G Download Speed Comparison
Network 4G Average Speed
O2 (Sky) 15.16 Mbps
Three 18.8 Mbps
Vodafone 21.9 Mbps
EE 29 Mbps

Fun factDid you know that the G in 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G stands for generation? EE was actually the first to launch 4G in the UK in 2012. Technology took huge strides with the advent of the fourth generation network and we’re excited to see what is in store with the fifth generation!

6.EE network coverage

Mobile signal

It’s safe to say that EE does pretty well with the coverage it provides. The jewel in the EE network coverage crown is that they have been voted the best network in the UK for network coverage by Rootmetrics for five years running.

Ofcom also stated that 88% of EE customers were satisfied with their level of signal coverage, that’s 1% higher than the industry average. EE also offers 99% coverage across the UK on the 4G network but it’s worth keeping in mind that this is around the average level of coverage that all mobile networks lay claim to. So, we can’t promise you’ll have much better 4G coverage with EE than another network just that it’s most likely to be decent.

EE customers can also check the level of service coverage in their area using the network status checker. This handy tool will help to keep you informed about things like maintenance work in your area.

7.Smart plans and swappable benefits

Happy customer

EE mobile offers smart plans with swappable benefits. Smart plans give you the ability to upgrade your phone from 15 days into your new plan (upgrade fees may apply). EE swappable benefits work like this, you get to choose one of four benefits at a time and if you feel like mixing it up you can change which benefit you have. We have to say, these extras seem pretty darn good and we like the flexibility EE affords with them! So what do you have to choose from?
