About

Who is Tesco Mobile?

Tesco Mobile is the consumer mobile brand of Tesco PLC, the UK’s largest grocery retailer. It launched in 2003 as a 50:50 joint venture with Telefónica UK (O2), and in 2024 Tesco bought out O2’s share to become fully Tesco-owned. The mobile service continues to run on the O2 network under a long-term MVNO agreement.

Tesco Mobile is now one of the UK’s largest MVNOs by customer count, marketed alongside Tesco’s grocery, banking and home insurance businesses. Customers with a Clubcard get automatic discounts on most plans, and Family Perks lets up to 4 lines share data and benefit from group pricing.

Tesco Mobile is regulated by Ofcom. Complaints fall under the Ombudsman Services: Communications scheme.

What customers actually say about Tesco Mobile

Trustpilot, tescomobile.com

4.0/ 5

~25,000 reviews

Positive overall

High for a UK telco. Customers praise the friendly customer service (one of the few mass-market networks with a UK call centre), Clubcard discounts and easy switching. Complaints centre on occasional bill issues and the slowness of unlock requests.

Ofcom complaints (mobile)

3/ 100k

Industry average ~8

Positive overall

Best-in-class on Ofcom. Tesco Mobile consistently has the lowest UK mobile complaint rate, less than half the industry average. Customer-service ratings are higher than any of the four host networks.

Which? gives Tesco Mobile Recommended Provider status, citing the UK call centre, the price-rise transparency and Clubcard integration. Scores well on contract flexibility too.

Hundreds of threads

Positive overall

A perennial UK MVNO favourite. Common forum advice: pair Tesco Mobile with a Clubcard for full price unlock; use Family Perks if you have 2 to 4 lines under one account; consider giffgaff if you want O2 network for less and don’t care about Clubcard.

Selectra expert verdict

Independent read, no commission shaping

Tesco Mobile is one of the easiest UK recommendations we make. The combination of O2 network signal, Ofcom-leading customer service, and Clubcard Prices on most plans is unbeatable for shoppers who already use Tesco regularly.

The honest catch: without a Clubcard, you typically pay more than you would on giffgaff (also on O2). And the unlimited tier at £20 is matched or beaten elsewhere. Choose Tesco Mobile if you have a Clubcard, want strong UK support and value a 12-month contract over 30-day rolling.

FAQ

Tesco Mobile deals, Clubcard prices and customer service, your questions answered

Is Tesco Mobile good in 2026?

Yes, exceptional value if you have a Clubcard. Tesco Mobile runs on the O2 network, ranks first on Ofcom complaints data (just 3 per 100k vs the industry average of 8), and gives Clubcard Prices on most SIM-only deals, typically 25-30% off the standard rate. Customer service runs from a UK call centre and consistently ranks among the best UK mobile networks. The honest catch: without a Clubcard, you pay more than you would on giffgaff for similar allowances on the same O2 network.

What network does Tesco Mobile use?

Tesco Mobile is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) on O2. Your 4G and 5G signal at any UK postcode is identical to a SIM bought from O2 direct. You can sanity-check at status.o2.co.uk before ordering.

How does Clubcard Prices work on Tesco Mobile?

Link your Clubcard number to your Tesco Mobile account (via My Account or at sign-up). Tesco Mobile then automatically applies Clubcard Prices on most SIM-only deals, typically saving you £2-£5 a month versus the standard price. The discount is permanent for the duration of the contract; if you let your Clubcard lapse, you fall back to the standard rate.

What is Family Perks on Tesco Mobile?

Family Perks lets up to 4 Tesco Mobile lines on the same account share data allowances and benefit from group discounts. Add a partner, child or parent under your account, and each new line typically gets 20% off the standard SIM-only price. Family members can also swap data between themselves through the My Tesco Mobile app.

How do I contact Tesco Mobile?

From a Tesco Mobile, dial 4455 free. From any other phone, call 0345 033 0000, free from a UK landline. Lines run Monday to Friday 08:00 to 21:00, weekends 09:00 to 18:00. The Tesco Mobile app has live chat. Full directory on our customer service page.

Can I unlock a Tesco Mobile phone?

Yes. Unlocks are free for any Tesco Mobile customer after the device is paid in full or you have completed your 24-month minimum term. Request through the My Tesco Mobile app or My Account. Tesco emails you an unlock code within 7-10 working days; some newer iPhones unlock automatically the next time the phone connects to Wi-Fi.
