Electricty North West
As of 1948, the electricity in Carlisle was provided by 'North West Electricity Board' (NORWEB). This ended in 1990 after privatisation when it became 'NORWEB plc'. In 1995, it merged with North West Water to form 'United Utilities'. However, the electricity side of the business was then sold and is now a constituent part of 'E·ON' and its distribution network belonging to Electricity North West.
The gas supply in Carlisle used to be provided by 'North Eastern Gas Board'. This was the case between the years of 1948-1972, thereafter becoming a region of the British Gas Corporation.
