Historical facts about electricity and gas in Dundee
Dundee, just like the rest of Northern Scotland used to be within the territory of 'North of Scotland Hydro Board' for electricity supply. However, after privatisation in 1991, one year later than in England, the company became a plc company under the name 'Scottish Hydro-Electric plc' which then merged with 'Southern Electric' to become 'Scottish & Southern'. This created the framework for the company that we know today as SSE, and the current DNO for Dundee.
Like the whole of Scotland, Dundee used to have its gas needs fulfilled by 'Scottish Gas Board' until 1973 when it became an area of the British Gas Corporation.
