'East Midlands Electricity Board' (EMEB) formed in 1948, forming one of the 12 national electricity boards to provide electricity to the areas within their territory. It was acquired by Powergen in 1998; however, was then rebranded along with 'Midlands Electricity plc' as 'Central Works' in 2004. It is now part of E·ON.

The years 1948-1973 saw the gas supply in Leicester being supplied by 'East Midlands Gas Board'; however, after this point it became a region of the British Gas Corporation.
