Until 1991, when privatisation in Scotland forced the nationalisation of their electricity networks, Peebles was supplied by 'South of Scotland Electricity Board'. Thereafter it became 'Scottish Power', which was taken over by 'Iberdrola', a spanish energy coglomerate, in 2007.

Before the British Gas Corporation annexed the regional gas boards in the United Kingdom in 1973, Peebles's gas supply was provided by 'Scottish Gas Board'.
