Before it became a private company in 1990, 'North Eastern Electricity Board' (NEEB) was responsible for all the electricity supplied in the Scarborough area. It was acquired by american energy company 'CalEnergy' in 1996 which formed a subsiduary called 'CE Electric' to manage it.

Scarborough was supplied by 'Northern Gas Board' for gas until it became an area of the British Gas Corporation in 1973. This happened to all the regional gas boards.
