History

Electricity

Before privatisation in 1990 Sunderland was supplied by 'North East Electricity Board' for its electricity. After this, it became 'Northern Electric' and was acquired by 'CalEnergy' in 1996. This formed a subsiduary called 'CE Electric' which managed Northern Electric.

Gas

Between 1948 and 1973 Sunderland's gas supply was provided by 'Northern Gas Board'; however, then became a region of the British Gas Corporation.
