Thurso's electricity used to be provided by 'North of Scotland Electricity Board' until it was privatised in 1991. Thereafter it became 'Scottish Hydro Electric', one part of the energy supplier we now know as SSE. This was made by merging Scottish Hydro Electric and 'Southern Energy'.
As of 1949, the gas in Thurso was provided by 'Southern Gas Board' until 1973, when it became an area of the British Gas Corporation.
