History

Electricity

In 1948 the electricity supplier for Wakefield, 'Yorkshire Electricity Board' was founded; however, like the rest of the regional electricity boards, was privatised in 1990. The new company was taken over by 'American Electric Power' (AEP) and 'Public Service Company of Colorado' (part of XCel Energy). In 2001, the company was once again acquired for a 94.75% ownership by 'Innogy plc', who would eventually become part of Npower.

Gas

Gas in Wakefield between the years 1948-1972 was supplied by 'Northern Eastern Gas Board; however, after 1972 it became a part of the British Gas Corporation.
