Coop Energy tariffs

Coop Energy offers three simple energy plans: one variable tariff, one fixed-rate tariff, and one powered by community energy. In this guide, we take a look at these Coop Energy tariffs in more detail, including pricing and how they compare to tariffs offered by other providers.

💸Coop Energy Tariffs and Prices

Since August 2019, Coop Energy has been working in partnership with Octopus Energy, which means Octopus supplies all of the energy to Coop Energy customers. As a result, all current Coop Energy tariffs use 100% renewable electricity!

Coop Energy tariffs include a fixed-rate tariff and a variable-rate tariff, as well as a unique tariff that is fuelled by community energy. All of these come as dual fuel tariffs, or electricity only tariffs, and have standard meter, Economy 7 meter and smart meter options.

This is all well and good - but how does Coop Energy compare on price to the rest of the market? Let's take a look at how providers performed in the last Which? survey in terms of value of money:

Let’s take a look at each of these Cooperative Energy tariffs individually:

💡1. Co-op Flexible

Coop Energy’s variable tariff is called the Co-op Flexible tariff. The supplier will give you 30 days notice of any changes to unit rate. This tariff has no exit fees, you will not have to pay a termination fee if you switch tariffs or providers.

💡2. Co-op 12m Fixed

This Cooperative Energy gas and electricity tariff is a fixed-rate tariff, meaning the unit rates and standing charges remain the same for 12 months.

Unlike most, Coop’s fixed tariff does not impose exit fees, so you will not be charged if you leave the tariff before the end of the 12-month contract.

💡3. Co-op Community Power

With this tariff, all of your energy is sourced from community-run renewable energy projects and all gas is carbon offset. Coop Energy buys its energy from Community Energy Projects through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for a fair price. This money then goes into local energy projects, such as installing solar panels on local rooftops and wind turbines on local farmland. Coop Community Energy works with over 80 energy projects across the UK, including Sandford Hydro, Westmill Wind and Solar Farm, and Oxford Bus Company.

Like the Co-op 12m fixed tariff, the Co-op Community Power tariff is a fixed-rate tariff for 12 months with no exit fees.

Coop Energy Tariff FAQs

The energy price per kWh depends on which E.ON tariff you are on. In general, electricity costs between 16.5p and 17p per kWh. Gas costs between 2.8p and 3.1p per kWh. As with most all suppliers, gas unit rates are much cheaper than electricity unit rates.

Is Coop Energy now Octopus?

Coop Energy operates in partnership with Octopus Energy, so the two are certainly linked. If you're a Coop Energy customer, your energy will be supplied by Octopus, but you're still a Coop customer.

Is Coop Energy still trading?

Yes. Coop Energy is still a fully licensed energy company operating in partnership with Octopus Energy, which takes care of its energy supply.

Does Coop do gas?

Yes, Coop Energy is a provider of both gas and electricity and offers dual-fuel tariffs to save customers the faff of being supplied by one supplier for electricity and another for gas.

Does Coop Energy charge exit fees?

Coop Energy tariffs do not charge exit fees. This means that even if you are on a fixed-rate contract for 12 months, you can still leave the contract early and you won't be charged for it.
