Npower customers are being transferred to a new supplier. In this guide, we look at the latest Npower tariffs and discuss what will happen once your account is transferred. We also examine how these tariffs compare to those with the new supplier.

Customer on Npower tariffs have been transferred to E.ON Next. The Npower website for domestic customers was shut down in June 2021.

Npower Tariffs

Npower tariffs are a thing of the past. After being acquired by E.ON in 2019, Npower customers were slowly transferred over to E.ON Next, a subsidiary of the E.ON Group. The Npower brand has all but disappeared.

The Npower website and app were closed down in June 2021. Customers need to manage their energy tariff via the portal with their new supplier, E.ON Next.

In this guide, we've broken down not only the latest Npower tariffs, but we've also compared them to the market average and tariffs with the new supplier, E.ON Next. For more information about the transfer in general, you can also head to our comprehensive Npower guide. Here's how they compare to the rest of the market in terms of value for money:

Npower Standard Tariff

Once your Npower tariff ends, you're automatically placed on the Npower standard tariff. New customers can also sign up for this plan. However, we advise against switching to this tariff as it tends to have the most expensive rates. This is common among most energy suppliers with multiple tariffs.

Npower Fixed Tariffs

If you were on a fixed tariff with Npower, the new supplier will honour your rates until the end of your contract period. Unless you sign up for a new tariff or switch supplier, you will then be placed on the E.ON Next standard tariff.

Npower Prepayment Tariff

Electricity customers can continue to use their Npower top-up key even after their supply has been switched to the new energy supplier. Gas customers will receive a new gas card once their account has been transferred.

Will my prepayment rates change with the new supplier?

Initially, the rates you pay on the Npower prepayment tariff will not change with the new energy supplier. As this tariff is variable, your prices will likely fluctuate each time the price cap is reviewed in April and October. If your rates are to change, the new supplier will notify you in advance (typically 30 days before).

Is Npower cheaper than E.ON Next?

Npower tariffs are more expensive than those with the new supplier. Therefore, customers can expect to see a decrease in their energy bills once their supply is switched.

What tariffs are available with the new supplier?

We've listed the tariffs for E.ON Next in the table below. As you can see, these tariffs are much cheaper than the Npower tariffs.

If you don't select one of the tariffs (or switch to a different energy supplier), you will automatically be placed on the E.ON Next standard tariff once your Npower tariff comes to an end. The standard tariff with the new supplier is called the Next Flex.

Npower Business Tariffs

Even though Npower sold all of its domestic customers to E.ON Next, it will still continue to supply business energy.

With Npower Business Solutions, you can get a tariff that guarantees fixed rates for up to five years. The supplier also offers a £200 discount for customers that sign up for a dual fuel (gas and electricity) tariff.

Get an Npower Quote

If you try to get an Npower quote on the Npower website, you will be redirected to the E.ON Next website. Starting in June 2021, the Npower website will be shut down. Customers will have to go through the E.ON Next website in order to get a quote.

Npower Tariff FAQs

Below, we’ve answered the most common questions that people often ask about Npower tariffs.

What will happen to my Npower tariff once my supply is transferred to E.ON Next?

If you are currently on a fixed rate tariff with Npower, your rates will remain the same until the contract term ends. When your tariff is nearing its end, the new supplier will contact you to let you know what tariffs are available to switch to.

If you are on a variable-rate tariff, your Npower rates will initially remain the same with the new supplier. If you do not select a new tariff, you will eventually be placed on the new supplier's standard variable tariff. Its rates will likely change twice per year (in April and October) when the price cap is reviewed. You will be notified before your rates change so that you can decide if you want to switch to a new tariff or supplier.

Does Npower charge an exit fee?

If your switch to E.ON Next has yet to be confirmed, you may have to pay an exit fee of £30 per fuel if you decide to cancel your fixed tariff before it ends. If you decide to switch to E.ON Next yourself (instead of leaving it to Npower to switch your supply for you), you may also be charged an exit fee.

You will not be charged an exit fee if you are either on a variable tariff (such as the standard or prepayment tariff) or if you switch suppliers within a certain timeframe after Npower has confirmed that your supply will be switched to the new supplier.
