Scottish Power tariffs look clear and straightforward on their website. In our complete guide to Scottish Power Tariffs in 2022, we will find out if they provide value for money or if Scottish Power tariffs leave you longing.

💸Scottish Power Tariffs and Prices

Energy regulator Ofgem requires all UK energy suppliers, including Scottish Power, to limit the number of fixed-rate tariffs. But when Scottish Power tariffs are made up of seven-plus words, it can be baffling to decipher what they mean and how much they cost! That’s why we’ve filtered down all the critical information you need to make a quick decision.

In the sections below, we break down these different types of Scottish Power tariffs:

  • Tariffs for existing customers
  • Tariffs for new customers
  • Pay As You Go tariffs
  • Business energy tariffs

Firstly, however, we're going to take a look at how Scottish Power tariffs compare to the rest of the market in terms of pricing. We use Which? scores for value for money to gauge how each provider performs:

As you can see, according to Which? Scottish Power tariffs are at the bottom of the table when it comes to providing value for money. However, recent customer reviews on TrustPilot seem more postive when it comes to getting value for money with their Scottish Power tariffs, giving mostly 4 or 5 stars.

Are Scottish Power tariffs green?

With all the recent news about green energy, net-zero pledges, and COP26, many customers are concerned about where their enery supplier gets its energy from. Its a breath of fresh air, pardon the pun, to know that Scottish Power tariffs are backed by 100% green energy that's generated by windfarms in the UK.

If you get confused with all the jargon, you can check out our buzzword buster guide.

💡Scottish Power Tariffs for Existing Customers

electricity tariffs

Existing Scottish Power customers who have reached the end of their fixed tariffs without renewing them will be put on the Scottish Power standard tariff. This tariff is variable, which means that your bills may go up or down depending on price fluctuations in the wholesale energy market and changes to the National Grid. We recommend that customers who are at the end of their fixed-rate period request a new Scottish Power quote to compare against other suppliers for the best deal.

As with other energy suppliers, the Standard Scottish Power tariff is protected by the Ofgem price cap.

Points to note about the Scottish Power standard tariff include the following:

  • Scottish Power should notify you if it intends to raise its prices.
  • There’s no tariff end date.
  • There are no exit fees to pay if you change energy supplier.

Scottish Power offers the following services to PAYG customers:

  • If you are in arrears with your Scottish Power energy bills, the supplier can set up your prepayment meter to collect a fixed sum of money that you owe at an agreed rate.
  • The supplier will give you an emergency credit facility if you run into an emergency and can’t get to a retail outlet to purchase credit (either because you’re ill, lacking adequate transport, or for any other genuine reason).

🏢Scottish Power Business Tariffs

Scottish Power boasts thousands of business customers across the UK, from micro-businesses to large groups of companies. They don’t apply a one-size-fits-all tariff for everyone. Instead, they recognise that energy consumption depends on the size and industry of your business. That’s why it offers separate tariffs and services for small businesses and commercial companies. Let’s have a quick look at each of them:

Scottish Power Tariffs for Small Business

Scottish Power’s small business plan is aimed primarily at micro-businesses. Examples include hairdressing salons, restaurants and retail shops. If you’re not sure whether your size and industry place you in this category, check out our Business Energy guide.

Below is a summary of what these Scottish Power tariffs offer:

  • Fixed unit rates for one, two, three or four years.
  • Competitive terms and conditions tailored to small companies.
  • Online account management with Scottish Power’s Online Energy Service or App.
  • Expert energy-efficiency advice to help save energy via Scottish Power’s partnership with The Carbon Trust.

You can get a Scottish power quote for a small business on the Scottish Power website.

Scottish Power Tariffs for Commercial Companies

You would be a commercial energy customer if Scottish Power will be supplying energy to several commercial sites on your account. This would be the case if your commercial premises is comprised of: industrial sites, a chain of company branches or a group of franchise companies.

There are no specific tariffs listed in Scottish Power’s “Commercial Energy” webpage, which leads us to believe that they will offer a bespoke tariff according to the needs of your multiple sites. To get a Scottish power quote for a commercial entity, contact Scottish Power directly.

Managing gas and electricity consumption and budgeting for bills is far more difficult at multiple sites compared to just one business premise. That’s why Scottish Power has designed its Commercial Portal. This online platform helps its commercial customers stay in control of all its business sites, with centralised data that facilitates management on a larger scale. Below are some of the features and benefits of their Commercial Energy portal:

  • Commercial Energy portfolio — view a summary of your customers and contracted sites.
  • Dashboard — download consumption information for each of your sites and see key market trends that affect your business.
  • View bills — see the balance for a specific site or the overall account balance for the group of sites.

For a more detailed look at the features and benefits of the Commercial Portal, see Scottish Power’s How-To guide.
