B2B arm of BT Group

BT Business broadband and services

BT Business is the separate B2B arm of BT Group that sells broadband, leased lines, hosted phone systems, mobile and cyber-security to UK SMEs and enterprises. The contracts are different from BT consumer broadband: longer (36 to 60 months), with stricter SLAs, dedicated business support and engineer-priority fault response.

Business vs home

BT Business vs BT Home, key differences

It is tempting to plug a residential BT broadband line into the office to save money. Here is what you lose by doing it, side by side.

Feature BT Business BT Home
Contract length 36 to 60 months 24 months
IP address Static IP on every plan Dynamic IP (changes regularly)
Support hours 24/7 UK-based business desk Residential support hours
Fault response SLA-backed, engineer-priority No SLA, best-effort fix
Pricing display Ex-VAT (20% added at checkout) Inc-VAT (final price shown)
Account manager Dedicated from 5 lines No account manager

If your business depends on the connection, the SLA and static IP are usually worth the premium on their own. The ex-VAT pricing also means a registered business can reclaim the 20% VAT, narrowing the real gap with home broadband.

FAQ

BT Business questions and answers

How is BT Business different from BT consumer broadband?

BT Business is a separate brand inside BT Group with its own contracts, support team and billing. The big differences: B2B contracts run 36 to 60 months, you get a static IP, fault response is backed by an SLA, support is on a UK-based business desk 24/7, and prices are shown ex-VAT. Consumer BT broadband is none of those things.

What is BT Halo Connect?

Halo Connect is BT Business’ premium broadband package. It bundles Full Fibre 900 with EE 4G Assure failover, a priority engineer fix on faults, dedicated business WiFi and access to BT’s Cloud Voice phone system at a discount. It is aimed at offices that cannot afford to lose connectivity during the day.

Can sole traders use BT Business?

Yes. BT Business will sell to a sole trader as long as you have a registered business (Companies House or HMRC self-assessment) and a business bank account. The Business Full Fibre 100 plan at £35/month ex-VAT is the typical starting point for a one-person operation that needs a static IP and proper SLA support.

What is the BT Business contact number?

For new sales call 0800 169 3820. For existing customer support call 0800 800 154. Both lines are free from UK landlines and mobiles. The business desk is open 24/7, unlike the residential lines.

Does BT Business offer a leased line?

Yes. BT Business sells two leased-line products: BT Ethernet Connect (uncontended dedicated bandwidth from 100 Mbps to 10 Gbps symmetric) and BT Ethernet Flex (a flexible variant where you scale bandwidth up and down monthly). Both come with a 5-hour engineer fix SLA and start from around £200/month ex-VAT depending on location and bandwidth.
