Who is Community Fibre?

Founded in 2013 as a small social-housing fibre project in South London, Community Fibre is now the largest independent fibre builder in the capital. Unlike BT, Sky and TalkTalk, it does not resell the Openreach network. It owns and operates its own XGS-PON fibre infrastructure, dug street by street across Greater London.

That is the reason every Community Fibre package is symmetric (upload speed equals download speed) and the reason its prices undercut the big four on the same street. There is no wholesale margin to pay because the cable in the ground is theirs. The trade-off is coverage: outside the M25, Community Fibre is simply not available.

Community Fibre is regulated by Ofcom like every other UK ISP. Its alternative dispute resolution scheme is CISAS, not Ombudsman Services. If a complaint is not resolved within 8 weeks, you can escalate to CISAS for free.

If your address is inside the Community Fibre footprint, this is one of the easiest broadband recommendations in the UK. You get symmetric Full Fibre on the supplier’s own XGS-PON network, at prices that routinely undercut BT, Sky and Virgin Media on the same street. The gigabit tier is the cheapest gigabit you can buy in London, and the 3 Gbps tier is the fastest residential broadband you can buy anywhere in the country at this price.

The honest weaknesses are two. First, coverage: Community Fibre is London-only. If you might move outside the M25 during your contract, factor in the early-termination fee. Second, the brand is much smaller than BT or Sky, so the verified review pool, while best-of-class on Trustpilot (4.7/5 over ~74,000 reviews), is still a fraction of the size of the incumbents. If price-to-speed-to-symmetry is what you care about and you have a Community Fibre postcode, this is the clear value pick of the London market. Compare it side-by-side with BT or Sky on the same speed tier and the Community Fibre line usually wins on price by £10 to £20 a month.

Community Fibre broadband, your questions answered

Is Community Fibre available outside London?

No. Community Fibre builds and operates its own XGS-PON fibre network only inside Greater London. As of May 2026 it has passed around 1.3 million homes across boroughs such as Westminster, Lambeth, Southwark, Camden, Islington and Tower Hamlets. If your postcode is outside London, none of these deals are available to you, the postcode checker on communityfibre.co.uk will confirm in seconds.

How much is Community Fibre per month?

As of May 2026, Fibre 150 starts around £17.99 a month, Fibre 500 around £25 a month, Fibre 1 Gig around £30 a month and the flagship Fibre 3 Gig around £49 a month. Contracts are typically 24 months with free installation. All speeds are symmetric (upload matches download), which is unusual for the price.

Is Community Fibre’s 3 Gbps speed real?

Yes. The Fibre 3 Gig package delivers around 3,000 Mbps download and 3,000 Mbps upload, end-to-end over Community Fibre’s own XGS-PON network. This is currently the fastest residential broadband available in London. To actually use those speeds you need a multi-gigabit-capable router (Community Fibre supplies one) and Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 7 devices.

Will Community Fibre raise my price during the contract?

Community Fibre advertises fixed pound-and-pence rises written into the contract from day one, in line with Ofcom rules introduced in January 2025. The exact amount is on your signed deal. Many promotional plans also include a price freeze for a stated period (often until the next April), which is set out clearly on the deal page before you click "buy".

Can I leave Community Fibre without an exit fee?

Yes, in two situations. First, in the last 30 days of your minimum term, you can switch without an exit fee. Second, if Community Fibre raises the price by more than the fixed amount written into your contract, Ofcom rules give you a 30-day window to leave penalty-free. Outside those windows you pay the remaining monthly fees on the contract.
