Who is Gigaclear?

Registered as Gigaclear Ltd, the company was founded in 2010 with a single, focused mission: bring full-fibre broadband to the rural villages and market towns the big national ISPs have not reached. Its head office sits in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, a few miles south of Oxford, which is why most of its UK landlines start with the 01865 dialling code.

Unlike a reseller, Gigaclear builds and operates its own XGS-PON full-fibre network, independent of BT Openreach. That is why it is classed as an “altnet” (alternative network) and why coverage is so different from a national ISP: Gigaclear only works in villages and small towns where it has physically dug fibre into the ground. The footprint has grown to around 500,000 premises across 27+ English counties by 2026, mostly in Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Wiltshire, Cambridgeshire, Devon, Northamptonshire, Berkshire, Essex and Somerset.

Gigaclear is regulated by Ofcom, the UK’s communications regulator, and complaint handling falls under the Communications Ombudsman alternative dispute resolution scheme.

No TV or landline

Gigaclear is broadband-only. There is no Gigaclear TV bundle and no traditional landline. Use streaming services (Netflix, NOW, Disney+) and either a mobile or a third-party VoIP for calls.

Independent read, no commission shaping

Gigaclear is the rural pick. If you live in a village or small market town outside Openreach’s gigabit footprint, this is, in most cases, the only credible way to get a symmetric full-fibre line at gigabit speeds, and the day-to-day product is genuinely good: the Linksys Velop router holds up well in stone cottages, the upload speeds are a step-change for anyone working from home, and the engineer-visit experience is one of the strongest recurring positives in the reviews.

The honest weakness is premium pricing. Building fibre to a village of 80 homes costs Gigaclear several times what Openreach pays per home in a city, and that cost is reflected in the bill: Gigaclear’s headline prices sit roughly 15 to 25% above an equivalent Openreach altnet on the same speed. That trade-off only stops being worth it the day Openreach gigabit reaches your street, at which point you should switch. Until then, Gigaclear’s closest competitors at your address are usually a 12 Mbps copper ADSL line or a patchy 4G connection, and on that comparison the verdict is clear: take Gigaclear if you can get it.

Is Gigaclear good in 2026?

For rural households that previously had no fibre option, yes, Gigaclear is genuinely transformative. It delivers symmetric speeds up to 900 Mbps over its own XGS-PON network, with a Trustpilot score of around 3.7 / 5. The weak spots are price (Gigaclear is rarely the cheapest), occasional installation delays in newer villages, and the lack of any TV or mobile bundle. If Openreach gigabit is already live at your address, you will probably save money sticking with an Openreach provider. If it is not, Gigaclear is often the only credible option.

How much is Gigaclear per month?

As of May 2026, Gigaclear residential prices start at around £35 a month for the 200 Mbps tier, rising to roughly £45 a month for 500 Mbps and £55 a month for symmetric 900 Mbps. Contracts are 18 months and there is normally no upfront fee on residential plans. Business contracts are 24 months and quoted ex-VAT.

Can I leave Gigaclear without an exit fee?

Yes, in two situations. First, in the last 30 days of your 18-month minimum term, you can switch without an exit fee. Second, if Gigaclear raises the price by more than the fixed amount written into your contract, Ofcom rules give you a free 30-day window to leave penalty-free. Outside those windows, expect to pay the remaining monthly fees on your contract.
