Established in 2011, POP Telecom is one of the UK’s fastest-growing telecommunications companies. They say their ethos is ‘simply communicating by communicating simply’, and that they aim to make joining and benefitting from their landline, broadband & mobile networks simple and clear. Read on as we take a look at POP Telecom reviews, deals and packages below.

POP Telecom's broadband network offers coverage to 94% of the UK population, the largest fixed line & broadband network in the UK, and their mobile network offers coverage to 98% of the population. They claim to offer seriously competitive deals and major discounts on high street brands, along with a customer service team trained in old-fashioned values - so let’s see what they have to offer.

POP Telecom Reviews

Do POP Telecom reviews paint a good picture of the provider? Well, according to review site Trustpilot, they very much do. On the site they receive an average rating of 4.7 stars out of 5, with 86% of reviewers giving them an excellent or great rating. Only 12% gave a rating of poor or bad, with very few seeming to have a reason to complain.

Many of the POP Telecom reviews available tout the consistency and the speed of their broadband service, but it's their excellent customer service and the ease of switching that impresses reviewers most:

On-time delivery and seamless swap of broadband. Had need for technical assistance, prompt answer, and excellent communication later online. Problem was with my device external to network, yet POP Telecom advisor investigated thoroughly. Speed is great too!

This is one of a great many reviews praising the effectiveness of their agents, with the words “polite” and “knowledgeable” a recurring theme across several reviews. One reviewer says it is “unlike any other telecommunications company.”

Unlike many suppliers, POP also seem to appreciate and know how to reciprocate customer loyalty - something that is often complained about by reviewers as lacking in most ISPs’ service. The customer below wrote after renewing his contract via telephone, speaking as if equally pleased by the company’s policy for renewals and the treatment from their customer service agents over the phone:

Easy to review with no price increase. Very good to treat loyal customers well which is unusual these days.

Other reviewers have also commented their appreciation of POP’s deals on renewing, as they are just the same for those joining as they are at the end of your contract. No being ripped off after years of loyalty here!

POP Telecom Broadband Deals

All of POP Telecom’s deals are available on 12, 18 or 24-month contracts, and the price is fixed for the whole duration of whichever contract length you choose. This flexibility mixed with the security of a price fix will appeal to many who don’t like the idea of being tied down to a deal that can only get worse. Here’s a basic look at POP Telecom’s deals:

Unlimited Broadband (not including anytime calls)
Unlimited Broadband
Superfast Fibre
Superfast Infinity Fibre
11Mbps £19.99 (Doesn't include anytime calls)
11Mbps £22.99 (Includes anytime calls)
38Mbps £25.00 (Includes anytime calls)
67Mbps £27.50 (Includes anytime calls)

How do these measure up?

WiFi router

You’ll notice that the best savings seem to be made on the slowest and fastest packages, with their Advanced Fibre deal not costing that much more than their Unlimited Broadband deal. It looks like a rough deal for those with ordinary broadband needs, but it’s really not much different to most providers’ pricing on these speeds.

The reason they’re so close in terms of price is because their deal on Advanced Fibre is so good. Try and find a similar price on these Fibre speeds with an anytime calls package. We’ll wait...

Apart from choosing your own contract length at a fixed price for its entire duration, these offers also include line rental, landline installation and a free router. You will have to pay £9.99 for delivery, though.

Each deal offers unlimited downloads, and you can add a range of call packages to your deal.

POP Telecom’s Calls Packages

All POP Telecom calls packages can be added to any of their broadband deals. For £15.99 per month new customers can have just a phone line installed on a 12 month contract and for £22.49, customers can include anytime calls. POP Telecom’s standard calls packages are, like their broadband deals, simply divided into 3 anytime calling bundles:

Anytime calling Anytime calling + Mobile calling Anytime calling + Euro & USA calling
 £6.50/month
 UK landlines included
 £20/month
 UK landlines included
 UK mobiles included
 £25/month
 UK landlines included
 UK mobiles included
 European & US landlines included

Understanding POP Telecom calls packages

To these deals you could add two months’ free landline assurance should you wish to include it, after which it will cost you £2 extra per month. Landline assurance will allow you to call for a BT Openreach engineer to come and fix any faults on your line should they occur. Careful though - from the master socket onwards faults are your responsibility and you’ll be charged £192 by their engineers to fix them.

The calls included in POP Telecom’s packages are capped at 1,200 minutes per month and 59 minutes per call. If you’re on a call for over an hour we suggest you hang up and redial to avoid being charged.

Take note that in these deals UK landlines include all 01, 02 and 03 numbers, and that UK mobiles include all Orange, EE, T-Mobile, Vodafone, Three and O2 phones.

European countries, meanwhile, include those you’d expect (Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain) and also Norway, Switzerland, the Azores and even Canada.

POP Telecom router

As we mentioned, a free router will come with your broadband deal as standard, but if you want to you do have the option to upgrade. A more advanced AC router is included and supports 300Mbps (2.4GHz) + 867Mbps (5GHz) dual-band WiFi connection, has three fixed antennas to provide a stable connections and optimal coverage, and USB ports for storage and printer sharing, FTP and media servers, as well as 3G/4G dongles. You have the option to rent a TP Link VR400 V3 AC Router for £4/month or TP Link VR600 AC Router for £8/month. There's also an option to purchase the TP Link VR600 AC Router for a one-off payment of £79.99/month.

Among other upgrades you can add to your deal are:

  • HD TV Box (£9.99/month)
  • TV Soundbar (£11.99/month).
  • Powerline adapters (£3/month).
  • WiFi extenders & Powerline adapter (£5/month).

POP Telecom Cancellation

To cancel your POP Telecom deal you will have to call or email one of their customer service advisers, who although disappointed will walk you through the whole process. Their contact details are in the section below. They will let you know if a cancellation fee applies, which will depend on how far along in your deal you are.

POP Telecom Contact

You can contact POP Telecom’s reportedly excellent customer service team for whatever reason through the following channels:

POP Telecom Contact NumberYou can Contact Pop Telecom between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday on 0843 538 6666. Please check with your provider if you don't know how much a call will cost.

You can also send an email to [email protected] or try to deal with your issue through POP’s online chat with one of their agents.

POP Telecom login - does it have an app?

Just now they don’t have an app, no. This is perhaps one of their biggest drawbacks. You can, however, login to your account online through their Web Portal simple by entering your username and password.

Through the portal you can access your current billing information, getting a rundown on your calls, how long they’ve taken, and how much you’ve been charged. Unfortunately you don’t seem to be able to use it for much more than this.

As a new customer you can, however, check the speeds that are available to you on their website using their postcode checking tool. Once you’ve settled on a deal you can of course also buy online, but once you do managing your account is for the most part done the old-fashioned way - speaking to one of their advisors over the phone.

This may not be such a bad thing; POP’s reputation for great customer service means you don’t have to dread your dealings with them. In fact, if you’re the kind of person who would rather talk to a person and have a helping hand at every stage in managing your account, does it not sound ideal?

The Verdict

Overall we would say POP Telecom have come out of this looking like a great option for your home broadband and phone. We don’t ask much more than low prices, great customer support and a reliable service, and these are all boxes they tick. Here’s our summary:

  • Strong reviews for customer support and effective service.
  • Fixed price over flexible contract lengths.
  • No price hikes when your contract expires or if you renew.
  • Cheap, flexible calls packages to add on.
  • Speeds are reliable as well as up there with some of the fastest on the market.
  • No app and limited ability to manage your account online for those who prefer this way.
