Old portal closed, sign in to MyTalkTalk

Shell Broadband login (archive)

The myshellbroadband.co.uk portal was decommissioned when the brand wound down in 2024. Former customers now sign in to MyTalkTalk, or, for a small minority, Post Office Broadband My Account. Below: the two live portals, a five-step migration walkthrough and fixes for the most common login issues.

At a glance

myshellbroadband.co.uk decommissioned MyTalkTalk replaces it for most Password reset by email or SMS Post Office portal for some accounts

Old portal closed

The myshellbroadband.co.uk login is dead. Type mytalktalk.co.uk directly in your browser bar to avoid phishing clones. If your account was routed to Post Office instead, the portal is postoffice.co.uk/broadband.

Where to sign in now

The two live portals for former Shell customers

Pick the one that holds your account. The vast majority of Shell Broadband customers were ported to TalkTalk, a small subset to Post Office. If you are not sure, check the direct-debit narrative on your bank statement first.

MyTalkTalk

Used for: Default destination for the vast majority of former Shell Broadband accounts.

  • View and pay bills
  • See your current TalkTalk tariff and renewal date
  • Update bank details and contact info
  • Raise a fault ticket or open a chat

Post Office Broadband My Account

Used for: For a small subset of legacy Shell accounts that were routed to Post Office.

  • View bills and direct-debit history
  • Check contract end date
  • Request a Mac code if you want to switch
  • Customer service contact form

Step by step

First sign-in after the Shell migration

For customers who never completed the move, here is the full path from "I have no idea where my account is" to "I am signed in to the new portal".

  1. 1

Confirm which provider holds your account

Look at your most recent bank statement and find the direct debit. If the narrative says "TalkTalk", you sign in to MyTalkTalk. If it says "Post Office" or "POL Broadband", you sign in to Post Office. There is no other option, every former Shell Broadband customer is on one of these two.

  2. 2

Use the email address Shell had on file

TalkTalk and Post Office both imported the email address that was on your original Shell Broadband account. Try that one first. If you have changed email since the migration, the system will not recognise the new one, you have to sign in with the original first and update it from inside the account.

  3. 3

Reset the password on first sign-in

For security reasons, neither provider transferred Shell Broadband passwords across. Click "forgotten password" on the sign-in page, enter your email, and you will get a reset link by email (and optionally a code by SMS if a mobile is on file). Set a new password and save it in a password manager.

  4. 4

Check your tariff and renewal date

The first thing to do inside MyTalkTalk or Post Office is open the "your tariff" section. Note the monthly price, the contract end date and the included speed. This is the number you will compare against live deals on the market when you decide whether to renew or switch.

  5. 5

Update bank, contact and marketing preferences

Marketing preferences do not always transfer cleanly. If you do not want sales calls, opt out explicitly inside the new account. Also confirm the bank details and address are correct, especially if you have moved house since the Shell migration.

Login troubleshooting

If something is not working

Five recurring issues former Shell Broadband customers hit when they first try to sign in to the inheriting portal, with a concrete fix for each.

  • My old Shell email address no longer exists

Call the inheriting provider on the phone (TalkTalk 0345 172 0088 or Post Office 0345 600 3210). They can verify your identity using your address, postcode and any old direct-debit reference, then update the email on the account.

  • I never received a migration letter and I am not sure I was moved

Check your direct-debit list at the bank for a TalkTalk or Post Office line item. If you find one, you were migrated. If not, your account may already have closed (some month-to-month Shell tariffs were terminated rather than ported). Call TalkTalk first to confirm.

  • I had a Shell Energy email address (@shellenergy.co.uk)

Those mailboxes were closed when Octopus took over the energy business. They do not work as a sign-in identifier or a contact route. Use your personal email address instead.

  • MyTalkTalk says my account does not exist

Either you have entered the wrong email, or your account was routed to Post Office instead. Try the Post Office login on postoffice.co.uk/broadband with the same email. If that also fails, call TalkTalk first because they hold the migration register.

  • I want to see a copy of my old Shell Broadband bills

Old Shell bills are no longer accessible online. If you need a historic copy (for an expenses claim, a tax return or a dispute), email [email protected] with a subject access request under UK GDPR. They will respond within 30 days.

Phishing alert

Common in the months after a brand wind-down

Brand closures are prime targets for phishing because customers know something has changed and are willing to click reset links. Three rules that block almost every Shell-Broadband-themed scam:

  • Do not click "reset your Shell Broadband password" links in emails. Shell Broadband is closed, no such email is legitimate.
  • Do not log in via a search result for "MyTalkTalk login". Type mytalktalk.co.uk directly, or use a bookmark.
  • Real provider emails never ask for your full password or full card details. If one does, report it to Action Fraud.

FAQ

Shell Broadband login, your questions answered

Can I still log in to myshellbroadband.co.uk?

No. The myshellbroadband.co.uk portal was decommissioned during the 2024 migration. The domain itself either redirects or returns an error page. Former customers need to sign in to MyTalkTalk or, for a small minority, Post Office Broadband My Account.

What is the MyTalkTalk login URL?

The official URL is https://www.mytalktalk.co.uk. Bookmark only that exact address. There are several phishing clones with very similar names (mytaIktaIk, my-talktalk, talktalk-my, etc.) so type the URL by hand or use a trusted bookmark.

I do not know my MyTalkTalk password, what do I do?

Click "Forgotten your password?" on the sign-in page. Enter the email address Shell had on file for your old account. You will get a reset link by email, sometimes plus a one-time code by SMS if a mobile number was imported. Set a new password and save it in a password manager so you do not have to repeat this next time.

Why does the system not recognise my Shell login details?

Two reasons. First, TalkTalk and Post Office did not transfer passwords from Shell for security reasons, you have to reset on first sign-in. Second, if you tried to log in with a Shell Energy mailbox (@shellenergy.co.uk), that mailbox was closed when Octopus took over the energy book, so the system has no record of it.

Can I download old Shell Broadband bills?

Not directly. The Shell account portal is gone and historical bills are not exposed inside MyTalkTalk. If you need a copy for an expenses claim or tax return, send a UK GDPR subject access request to [email protected], including your old Shell Broadband account number and the period you want covered. TalkTalk has 30 days to respond.

Do I still need my old Shell Broadband router?

Probably not. Most TalkTalk migration packs include a new TalkTalk-branded router (Wi-Fi Hub or Sagemcom 5364), and the old Shell-branded router is no longer auto-provisioned. If yours still works, you can keep using it as a passive piece of kit, but Wi-Fi names, app integration and any guarantee will be tied to the new TalkTalk router. Recycle the Shell one via the postage-paid envelope TalkTalk sent, or at any council electricals recycling point.
