If you’ve got no internet connection, you might be wondering, is Vodafone Broadband down? Well, it might be but before you Contact Vodafone, you should first run some tests on your router and equipment to make sure the problem is on Vodafone's side and not yours.
To find out where the problem could be, you will need to run some tests like:
- Restart your router
- Restart your computer or mobile device
- Try connecting with an ethernet cable

How Do I Reset My Vodafone Router?
The first step whenever you think Vodafone broadband is down is to restart your router. This can often solve the problem quickly as it resets the connection between your router and Vodafone. To restart your router, simply follow these steps:
- Turn off your router - the button is usually on the back near the power input
- Unplug all the cables, including the power plug
- Wait for approximately two minutes
- Plug the cables back into your router
- Press the power button to turn it back on again
- Wait for one or two minutes for your router to power back on and connect to the internet
Once your router is back on and the lights are green, you can recheck your connection. You can do this with any wi-fi enabled device, however it can be better to use a wired ethernet connection as we will explain further down.
If you’re able to browse the web, your internet connection is working and it’s safe to say Vodafone Broadband isn’t down. But if you still have no internet connection, move on to the next step.

Try Connecting With an Ethernet Cable
If you’ve followed the last two steps and you still think Vodafone Broadband is down, you should try to check if it's actually just your wi-fi that’s not working.
We can do this by plugging your computer into the Vodafone router via ethernet cable. An ethernet connection is much more stable and less prone to issues, by doing this it will help to find out if the problem is at your home or outside on the Vodafone network.
However, some devices such as "thin" style laptops might not have an ethernet socket, so you might need to skip this step or you can buy a USB ethernet adapter from most computer stores or online from Amazon. They’re relatively cheap and even if your internet is working fine, an ethernet connection will boost the speed of your internet to give you Faster Broadband.
To connect your computer via ethernet cable, just plug one end into your computer and the other end into the back of your Vodafone router - both sides are the same, so don’t worry about which way around you connect. Once you’ve done this, wait a few moments for your computer to recognise the ethernet cable connection and try to connect to the internet.
If you still don’t have access to the internet after you’ve tried this final step, it’s likely that Vodafone Broadband is down and you'll need to speak to Vodafone to find out when it will be fixed.
Why Is Vodafone Network Slow?
Sometimes you might have an internet connection, but it seems to be running slowly. This could be due to a number of factors such as:
- Multiple users on the same network
- Downloads and/or uploads running in the background
- Intensive usage such as gaming or Streaming
- Internet problem
If you have a slow Vodafone network connection, you should first of all check if other users on your network are having the same problem as you, if they are, ask them to disconnect from your home network whilst you run some checks.
Why Is Vodafone Network Slow? The Vodafone Broadband network mostly uses the BT Openreach network, whilst the Vodafone Mobile network is its own. Sometimes, the Vodafone network is slow because there are many users using the internet at the same time - either at home or in the greater network. You can try using alternative DNS servers or specifically for mobile users, a different Vodafone APN or check Vodafone Coverage in your area.
Before you contact Vodafone about slow speeds, try these following steps.
- Check your computer for any background downloads
- Connect via ethernet cable
- Run a speed test
You should also check if the other users have been downloading or making backups to the cloud as your slow Vodafone connection could be down to a single user on your network.
Once you're ready, you can run a Speed Test to find out how fast your internet connection is. If you’re on wi-fi, you can usually expect to get around 40-80% of the speed you pay for, though this will depend on your device and how far away you are from your router. If you’re connected via ethernet cable, you should be able to get at least 90% of the promised speeds.

Vodafone Automatic Compensation Scheme
Vodafone customers who have had problems with their Broadband might be eligible for compensation under the Ofcom Automatic Compensation Scheme, to which Vodafone has been a part of since 3rd November 2021.
