Cancellation step-by-step

Cancel Vodafone

A step-by-step plan to cancel your Vodafone broadband or mobile contract in 2026: when you can leave penalty-free, when an exit fee applies, the retentions phone number, how the 30-day notice works and how to port your mobile out with a PAC code. Verified against Vodafone’s own terms and Ofcom rules in May 2026.

Broadband cancellation

Six steps to cancel Vodafone broadband cleanly

Do these in order. Skip the notice or the return-of-equipment step and Vodafone keeps billing you or adds a non-return charge.

1

Find your contract end date

Log in to My Vodafone and open the contract summary. The minimum-term end date is the only date that matters for exit fees. Cancelling on or after that date costs nothing; cancelling before it costs the remaining monthly fees in full.

2

Check the free-leave window

If Vodafone has sent you a price-rise notice in the last 30 days, you have a free 30-day window to cancel without exit fees, even mid-contract. This is an Ofcom rule and applies to any rise above the fixed amount written into your original contract.

3

Call the retentions team

Dial 191 from a Vodafone mobile (free) or 0333 304 0191 from any other phone and ask for cancellation. You will be passed to the retentions team. There is no online cancel button for broadband, you must speak to a human. Allow at least 30 minutes.

4

Confirm the 30-day notice

Vodafone requires 30 days notice in writing or by phone before the service ends. You can name a switch date inside that window. If you are moving to another ISP, the new provider sends the cancellation request to Vodafone automatically (One Touch Switch on Openreach lines).

5

Return the Ultra Hub and disc

Vodafone emails a pre-paid returns label within a few days of cancellation. Pack the Pro II Ultra Hub and the Super Wi-Fi 6E Booster into the original box (or any sturdy box) and drop it at a Royal Mail Post Office. Failure to return within 30 days triggers a non-return charge of around £80 per item.

6

Watch the final bill

Your final Vodafone bill arrives 4 to 6 weeks after the service ends, with any pro-rata refunds or charges. Direct Debit stays active until that final bill clears, so do not cancel it before then or you risk a missed-payment marker on your credit file.

Exit fees

When will Vodafone charge an exit fee?

Four ways out without paying, one way out that costs the remaining monthly fees. Know which one applies to you before you call.

When you cancel Exit fee
In the last 30 days of minimum term None
After the minimum term has ended None
Within 30 days of a price rise notice None (Ofcom free-leave rule)
Within 14 days of taking out a new contract None (cooling-off period)
Mid-contract, outside any of the above Remaining monthly fees in full

Mobile port-out

Leave Vodafone mobile with a PAC code

For mobile you do not need to phone Vodafone at all. Ofcom’s text-to-port system makes it a one-working-day switch you control from your phone.

1

Request a PAC code

Text PAC to 65075 from your Vodafone number. You receive your PAC code by text within minutes, plus a summary of any exit fees you would pay if you port out before the contract ends. PAC codes are free and valid for 30 days.

2

Or request a STAC code (no number kept)

If you want to leave Vodafone but keep your number ported to a new SIM-only deal, use PAC. If you want to leave without keeping the number, text STAC to 75075. You only need one or the other, not both.

3

Give the code to your new network

Pass the PAC (or STAC) code to your new mobile network within 30 days. They handle the switch. Your old Vodafone SIM stops working within 1 working day; your new SIM activates the same morning.

4

No need to phone Vodafone

The text-to-port system was made mandatory by Ofcom in 2019. You do not need to call Vodafone to leave a mobile contract, and they cannot block or delay the port. They will text you a confirmation when the switch completes.

FAQ

Cancelling Vodafone, your questions answered

How much notice do I need to give Vodafone?

Vodafone broadband requires 30 days notice to cancel. You can give that notice by phone (0333 304 0191) or in writing. Mobile contracts use the Ofcom PAC or STAC code system, which transfers the cancellation onto your new provider and effectively becomes a one-working-day switch. If you are switching broadband to another ISP that uses Openreach (BT, Sky, Plusnet, TalkTalk and most alt-nets), the new provider sends the cancellation request to Vodafone for you via One Touch Switch.

When will Vodafone charge an exit fee?

Only when you cancel mid-contract outside the free-leave windows. The exit fee is the sum of the remaining monthly fees until the minimum-term end date, minus a small VAT discount. Example: if you have 6 months left on a £35/month plan, expect roughly £175 to £205 in exit fees. You can avoid the fee entirely by cancelling in the last 30 days of the minimum term, after a price-rise notice or inside the 14-day cooling-off period of a new contract.

What is the Ofcom free-leave window?

If Vodafone raises your price by more than the fixed amount written into your contract (Ofcom outlawed CPI-linked rises in January 2025 in favour of fixed pound-and-pence increases), you have a free 30-day window from the notice date to cancel without exit fees. Vodafone is required by Ofcom to tell you about this window in the same notice. Keep the email or letter as proof.

How do I cancel my Vodafone mobile and keep my number?

Text PAC to 65075 from your Vodafone number. Vodafone replies with your PAC code (valid 30 days) plus a summary of any early-termination fees you would owe if you leave before the contract ends. Give the PAC to your new mobile network, who handles the switch. Your old SIM stops working within one working day; the new SIM activates the same morning.

Can Vodafone refuse to cancel my contract?

No. Once the 30-day notice is given (or the PAC/STAC code is used), Vodafone is legally required to release you. They can ask why you are leaving, offer a retention deal and warn you about exit fees if you are mid-contract, but they cannot block the cancellation. If a Vodafone agent refuses to process the request, escalate via our complaints procedure and then to CISAS after 8 weeks.
