How to Cancel Vodafone Contract

The steps you need to take to cancel Vodafone contract varies depending on whether you’d like to cancel Vodafone Mobile or Vodafone Broadband. There are also several ways in which you can cancel your Vodafone contract and we’ll explain each option clearly so you can decide which method is best for you.

Vodafone Broadband Down? If you're Vodafone broadband is not working, you can find out how to fix it by reading our Vodafone Broadband Down guide.

Cancel Vodafone Broadband

If you’ve decided to cancel Vodafone Broadband, you will need to make sure that you follow these simple steps to ensure your Vodafone contract is ended and you are not charged more later down the line.

The first step is to make sure you’re no longer in-contract with Vodafone. This is important because you might be charged an Early Termination Fee otherwise, more on this later. As long as your Vodafone contract is over, you can move on to step two.

The second step is to Contact Vodafone and let them know you want to cancel your Vodafone contract and from what date you would like the cancellation to take effect. Vodafone will most likely try to persuade you not to cancel your contract and offer you some exclusive deals to keep you as a customer. You are under no obligation to accept these deals and you should stand your ground and firmly reject any offers.

At this point, Vodafone will let you know how much your final bill is expected to be including the Vodafone early termination fee, and they will confirm that your contract will cease on the date you’ve requested. In most cases, you will need to provide a date that’s at least 30-days in advance. Your final bill may change if you use extra services or make calls outside of any inclusive calls package you have, so bear this in mind.

The easiest way to contact Vodafone to cancel is by calling them directly. You will need to call the Vodafone cancellation number which is 0333 304 0191 or 191 from a Vodafone mobile.

Switching Broadband Providers With the One-Stop Switch In the last few years, Ofcom has made switching easy and as long as your new Broadband Provider uses the BT Openreach network, you won’t have to contact Vodafone to cancel - your new provider will do this for you. This makes switching broadband providers quick and painless, and also means you don’t have to worry about loss of service during the switch.

Vodafone Broadband Moving House

When you’re Moving House, one of the first things you might need to do is set up Broadband. If you’re already a Vodafone customer, you might think it's easier to take your broadband with you. However, we would recommend that you Compare Broadband Providers to make sure you’re getting the best possible broadband deal. If you’re still in contract with Vodafone, then it will probably be better to contact the Vodafone Broadband moving house team to get your service transferred to your new home.

It’s important to contact Vodafone at least 30-days in advance of your move so the provider can schedule an installation date. If you can’t let them know 30-days before, your installation at the new property might be delayed. Just try to give Vodafone as much notice as possible.

Once you’ve got your new address ready, you should go online to check Vodafone Broadband is available, then call Vodafone to schedule the installation. When you call, make sure you have the following information ready:

  • Vodafone account number
  • Vodafone landline number
  • You new address
  • Moving in and out dates

With this information to hand, call 191 from your Vodafone mobile or 0333 304 0191 from any other number.

How to Cancel Vodafone Contract Without Paying?

Most Vodafone contracts tend to be from 12-24 months in length, so bear this in mind when you’re ending vodafone contract early. If you’re still within your contracted period you will be charged a Vodafone early termination fee, you can calculate this by doing the following calculation:

Monthly Fee x Months Remaining - for example, if you’re paying £25 a month and you have four months remaining on your Vodafone contract, you will need to pay £100 to cancel your contract early.

There are some situations where you won’t need to pay a Vodafone early termination fee. If you’re moving to a new home and Vodafone Broadband is unable to get you connected, you won’t have to pay to cancel Vodafone contract - this doesn’t apply if you’re moving abroad.

You are also free to cancel without paying a Vodafone early termination fee if you signed-up less than 14 days ago as you have a Vodafone cooling off period that means you can change your mind for any reason without penalty. You will of course be charged for any services you’ve used during that period such as:

  • Line rental
  • Calls outside inclusive minutes
  • Installation and activation costs, if any
  • Extras you’ve purchased, such as a mobile phone

What’s a Cooling Off Period? All broadband providers and any company who engages in distance selling is required to give the customer a cooling off period in case they change their minds. As a minimum, you are guaranteed by law to 14 days. However, some companies may offer a lengthier period but this is rare.

Cancel Vodafone Mobile

If you have a Vodafone mobile on pay-as-you-go, also called PAYG, you don’t need to do anything to cancel Vodafone mobile - your service will terminate after 180-days without a Vodafone top-up being made. You can request a refund of any remaining credit and any completely unused bundles up to 60 days after you’re Vodafone PAYG has been disconnected

Customers with a pay monthly service who want to cancel Vodafone plan will need to follow a few simple steps to make sure your Vodafone contract is terminated or transferred to your new provider without hassle.

As with Vodafone Broadband, you will need to check if you’re still under contract with Vodafone mobile. The easiest way to do this is by texting INFO to 85075, you will receive a text message shortly after from Vodafone to let you know how long you have left on your contract.

Transfer Vodafone Number to New Provider

If you’re transferring your number to another Moble Network, rather than cancelling Vodafone plan, you will need to request a PAC number from Vodafone. This gives authorisation to your new provider to port your number to its network.

Once you have your Vodafone PAC number, you can give this to your new network provider within 30 days. If you don’t use the PAC number within this timeframe, your number will not be switched and the PAC will expire.

You can request a PAC from Vodafone in the following ways.

Vodafone PAC Number: Online

You can login to your online Vodafone account and go to Account settings → Mobile switching or you can use the Vodafone live chat service to request your PAC number from the provider.

Vodafone PAC Number: By SMS

If you only have a single mobile number with Vodafone, you can text PAC + YOUR PIN to 65075, just replace "YOUR PIN" with your actual Vodafone PIN number and be sure to include a space between the two numbers. Shortly after you’ve sent that message, Vodafone will reply with your PAC number.

Cancel Vodafone Contract Online

Unfortunately, unless you’re switching to another network or broadband provider, Vodafone does not allow customers to cancel their contracts online. The only way to cancel Vodafone contract is by giving the Vodafone cancellation number a ring.

The number you should dial is 191 from your Vodafone mobile or 0333 304 0191 if you’re calling from a non-Vodafone number. The Vodafone cancellation number is open Monday to Sunday 8am-8pm.
