1) What happened to Usio Energy?

Usio Energy ceased trading in October 2018 and all of its customers were transferred to a different energy supplier. The supplier’s collapse came just a few weeks after Iresa (another UK energy supplier) also closed down.

2) When was my Usio energy supply transferred?

Usio Energy customers were transferred to First Utility on 19 October 2018. The newly appointed supplier was already part of Shell Energy, but it didn’t use the name until it rebranded in March 2019.

3) Will I have to pay more with the new supplier?

Former Usio Energy customers should have already received their new energy prices from the new provider. If you are not happy with your new rates, you are free to change to a different plan. Unless you have signed up for a fixed-rate contract with the new supplier, you will not be charged an exit fee for switching to a different company with a better rate.

4) Will my Usio Energy smart meter work with the new supplier?

If you have a second-generation smart meter (SMETS2) installed by Usio Energy, it will continue to work when you switch to a different supplier. If you have a first-generation smart meter (SMETS1), your meter will lose its smart functionality and you will need to submit meter readings to ensure accurate billing.

5) I don’t want to be with Shell. Can I switch to a new supplier?

Usio Energy review: customer's thoughts

On the customer review site Trustpilot, Usio Energy has an average rating of 3.7 out of five stars. While this rating is quite high compared to other energy suppliers, the reviews are actually quite mixed. While 56% of customers who left a review gave Usio Energy an excellent rating, almost 30% of the reviews rate the company as either poor or bad.

The reviews show that Usio Energy customers were generally satisfied with the service they received over the phone, particularly with the fact that the company did not use any sort of automated menu service. However, in the months before the supplier ceased trading, we noticed a spike in negative reviews regarding customer service.

Usio Energy was one of the cheapest energy suppliers on the market. They were also one of the first suppliers to begin installing the second generation of smart meters. Unfortunately for Usio Energy customers, the company was only able to stay open for a short period of time before it ultimately went bust in 2018.

What will happen to my Usio Energy smart meter?

If you have a Usio Energy smart meter, it is likely a second-generation smart meter (SMETS2). Unlike with the first generation of smart meters (SMETS1), you can switch energy suppliers without your SMETS2 smart meter losing its smart functionality.

Usio Energy was one of the first energy suppliers to begin installing SMETS2 smart meters for customers. Some Usio Energy tariffs, such as the Home After 7 tariff, even required smart meters to measure when exactly you were using your energy.

If your smart meter stops working as it did before with your new supplier, you likely had a SMETS1 meter installed. You will need to submit monthly meter readings to your new energy supplier in order to ensure accurate billing. We recommend you contact your supplier to book an appointment to have a new smart meter installed. The installation is usually free.

Usio smart meter app

The Usio smart meter app allowed customers to track their energy usage in near real-time using their smartphone. The idea behind the app was that customers would be able to monitor their usage and cut back on their spending.

The new supplier also has a mobile energy app for customers. The Shell app is available for both iPhone and Android.

What tariffs did Usio offer?

Usio Energy offered many different fixed and variable-rate tariffs. The company also had electric car tariffs and green energy tariffs for customers who wanted to use energy from renewable sources. The supplier claimed that their prices and tariffs were transparent with no hidden profit margins.

• Home after 7 - These tariffs were designed for customers that consumed most of their energy in the evenings, with cheaper energy bought for them at these times.
• Smart green - These competitively-priced tariffs were suited for the type of customer that uses energy at all times of day and night.
• Green light - These basic tariffs were for customers who did not have a smart meter.

Usio Energy login: how do I access my account?

Are you trying to access the Usio Energy login page? You’ll find that the Usio Energy login is no longer available. You will need to access the login page for the new supplier in order to manage your energy account online.

To access the login page for the new supplier, former Usio Energy customers should go to the Shell Energy homepage and click on where it says Login in the top right corner. Click on where it says Don't have a password and then enter your email address.The supplier will then send you an email with a link. Click on this link to create a password and finish setting up your account.
