Yorkshire Water Contact Numbers
Yorkshire Water operates primarily through 0345 numbers, which are charged at the standard UK local rate and are included in most inclusive call packages. These are not premium rates and will cost the same as a local rate call, whether you ring from a landline or a mobile.
Yorkshire Water supplies drinking water and wastewater services to around 5.4 million people across Yorkshire, including Leeds, Sheffield, Bradford, Hull, York, Wakefield and Doncaster. Unlike water-only companies, Yorkshire Water handles both the clean water supply and the sewerage, so a single bill and a single phone line cover both services.

How To Speak to a Human at Yorkshire Water
The main Yorkshire Water line on 0345 124 2424 is an automated switchboard with four menu options. Picking the right one routes you straight to the relevant team and avoids being transferred, which is the most common cause of long waits.
- Clean water or wastewater problems
- Make a payment
- Moving house
- Billing enquiries
If none of the options fit, stay on the line - after the menu times out, most calls are passed to a general adviser who can either help directly or warm-transfer you to the correct team.
Yorkshire Water Emergency & Leak Line
The Yorkshire Water Leakline is 0800 57 35 53, free to call and staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including bank holidays. Use it for burst pipes, sudden loss of supply, discoloured or contaminated water and any visible leak wasting water on the public highway. You do not need to be a Yorkshire Water customer to report a leak outside a private property.
As a rule, Yorkshire Water is responsible for the mains up to the outside stop tap on the boundary of your property. Everything beyond that point - the service pipe running under your garden, indoor plumbing and fittings - is the homeowner's responsibility and a job for a qualified plumber, not the water company.
Priority Services & Payment Assistance
Yorkshire Water runs two dedicated support lines for customers who need extra help. The Priority Services Register on 0800 138 7878 is available 24/7 and unlocks services such as bottled water deliveries during supply interruptions, alternative bill formats (large print, Braille, audio) and a password scheme for doorstep visits.
You can register for PSR if you live alone with a disability, are over 60, have children under 5, use medical equipment that requires water, or have a long-term health condition. Registration is free and has no effect on how much you pay for water.
For customers already in arrears and struggling to pay, the Bill Payment Helpline on 0345 129 9299 can set up manageable payment plans, discuss the WaterSupport social tariff, and access hardship grants through the Yorkshire Water Community Trust.
Yorkshire Water Call Back
If you would rather not wait on hold, Yorkshire Water offers a free callback service through the online contact form. You pick a one-hour slot on a working day and an adviser rings you back. In practice, the callback can arrive up to thirty minutes after the time you chose, so keep your phone nearby throughout the slot.
Callbacks are only available for non-emergency queries - billing, meter readings, moving house and general account questions. If you need to report a leak, contamination or no supply, call the 24/7 Leakline on 0800 57 35 53 directly instead.

Yorkshire Water Developer Services
Builders, self-builders and property developers have a separate Yorkshire Water line on 0345 120 8482, open Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm. The menu splits into two teams depending on the job:
- Option 1 - Sewerage / Wastewater: new sewer connections, build-over agreements and diversions
- Option 2 - Clean Water: new water mains connections, service pipe laying and meter installations
Yorkshire Water also publishes dedicated email contacts for each Developer Services team on its website, which is usually the quickest way to submit drawings, site plans and quote requests.
How to Make a Complaint to Yorkshire Water
Yorkshire Water follows a four-step complaints process overseen by Ofwat and the Consumer Council for Water. Most issues are resolved at the first stage, but escalation routes exist if you are not happy with the outcome.
Step 1 - Contact Yorkshire Water directly by phone on 0345 124 2424, through the online form, or by post to Western House. Explain the problem clearly and ask for a case reference. Yorkshire Water aims to respond within 10 working days.
Step 2 - Ask for a manager review if you are unhappy with the first reply. A team manager will reopen the case. You can escalate externally once eight weeks have passed without a resolution, or sooner if Yorkshire Water issues a deadlock letter.
Step 3 - Contact the Consumer Council for Water (CCW) on 0300 034 2222. CCW is a free, independent body that reviews unresolved water complaints and negotiates with the supplier on your behalf.
Step 4 - Use the Water Redress Scheme (WATRS) on 0207 520 3801 for long-running disputes. WATRS is an independent adjudication service whose decisions are binding on Yorkshire Water.
