History
Electricity
Up until the year 1990, the electricity demands of Swindon were fulfilled by 'South Western Electricity Board' (SWEB). After 1990, and privatisation, it became 'SWEB Energy' which underwent a variety of takeover in the years following. In 2003 EDF discontinued the brand name and 2010 saw it sold to 'PPL' who rebranded it to Western Power Distribution.
Gas
Between the years of 1948-1973, 'South Western Gas Board' provided the gas supply in Swindon; however, after this time it became and area of the British Gas Corporation.
