Where does Anglian Water's water come from?

Roughly half of the water in the Anglian Water coverage area comes from surface-water sources such as rivers or reservoirs. The remaining water comes from underground sources such as boreholes or aquifers. The source of your water may vary throughout the year as water levels ebb and flow, but it will always go through a thorough filtering and cleansing process to ensure its safety before reaching your home.

Water Rates Louth

Louth water come in two forms - metered and unmetered. If you are unsure which you have, homes with metered water rates will have a meter number listed on their bill. If you can't find this, the account number may start with MC for metered customers, or UC for unmetered customers.

Don't have a bill? You may also be able to find a water meter by searching around your property. These would be located near the stop tap in the kitchen or garage, or they could also be in the garden within a small box in the ground. If your property has a water meter, you must provide regular water meter readings. This can be easily done by calling, logging into your account, or using your suppliers app.

Homes that are not metered will have a rateable value of the home. This value uses basic property data to estimate your homes water consumption volume, which is then used to create your water bill.

Feel that estimated bills aren't a good fit for you? Take a read through Selectra's guide to water meters to learn more about how they work, and if they are the right choice for your home.

The average water rates Louth residents are being charged result in an average water bill of around £341 a year. This amount combines both water supply and sewerage costs.

Our guide to water rates will also give you some great tips on how to lower your expenditure and better understand your bills.

Louth Water Hardness

Water hardness is essentially a measurement of the value of dissolved minerals present in your water. The higher the mineral value is, the harder the water rating will be, and which will lessen its general effectiveness. Though water enters the water cycle as rain, which is quite soft, it will pick up minerals of varying volume as it filters through rocks and rivers.

The good news, is that Louth water hardness is rated as medium. This means that you should not see significantly limescale build-ups or the deterioration of appliances. It may, however, still be beneficial to purchase products that focus on water softening properties to further minimize this risk, and to use an acidic sanitiser on areas that are prone to limescale, such as taps and sinks.

Can you drink the water in Louth?

Definitely! As with the vast majority of the UK, Louth water meets very high standards. It is unnecessary to purchase bottled water or to boil your water to make it potable. The UK Drinking Water Inspectorate has scored Louth water quality at a great 99.96% in overall mean zonal compliance, meaning that all legal and safety guidelines have been met.

Mild changes in taste or smell of Louth are usually not cause for concern, such as in the following instances:

  1. Seasonal changes such as where your water has come from or how it has filtered through the earth can imbue your water with varying flavours.
  2. Plumbing such as taps and pipes repairs can also contribute to the taste of your household water, adding metallic, salty or rubbery hints.
  3. Chlorination is used to eliminate harmful contaminants. This is harmless to health, and does not affect your waters safety.

If you have questions about your water's taste, smell or appearance, you should not hesitate to contact Anglian Water, who will provide further assistance.

Louth Water Problems

Louth water problems can include anything from burst water mains, flooding or failure of supply. You should make sure you know what to do and who to contact should you experience such an event.

If you notice a water leak or flooding outside your Louth property, you need to do one of the following:

  1. If you aren't at home, call or send Anglian Water a message on social media (Twitter, Facebook & Instagram).
  2. If you are near a computer, go to the "report a leak" section of the Anglian Water website and fill out the online form.

Louth No Water

Having no water in your home could relate to either an internal plumbing issue within your home, or it could be an Anglian Water outage. Here is what you can do to determine which it may be, and what your next steps are.

  1. Check the "Contact Us" or "Report an issue" section of the Anglian Water website. From here you can find useful advice on how to proceed, report an issue via their online form, or find the most appropriate contact number.
  2. Check that your stop tap is open. If this is in the closed position, this would prevent water flow. Turning it to open should allow water flow to resume.
  3. Ask your neighbours whether they have the same issue as you. If they do, then this points towards the issue being to do with your supplier's network.
  4. If you have no water, is it only no cold water or no hot water? If you have no hot water but have cold water still, the issue will be with your home plumbing and not the water company.

If there is no cold water, not even a trickle, contact Anglian Water for assistance.
