South Staffs Water Meter

smart water meter

South Staffs Water asserts that getting a water meter can save households money. The water supplier quotes a yearly savings of £100 for the average user. Getting a South Staffs Water meter is free, easy to apply for and you can switch back to a non-metered water supply within two years if you decide it's not for you.

Where Is My South Staffs Water Meter?

Your water meter can either be located indoors or outdoors. If the water meter is in your home, it will mostly be close to where the water supply enters your home. Very often that will be under the sink in the kitchen, garage or utility area (for those that have them).

If the meter is outside, it will be adjacent to your main stop tap, also known as the boundary stop tap. Check the footpath to your home since that is a common location. Look for a plastic or metal box. This can be opened with a medium/large flat head screwdriver. You may find pooled water in the box - do not fret, this is quite normal and it doesn't impact the proper function of the meter.

Reading Your South Staffs Water Meter

One of the benefits of regularly reading your water meter is to be aware of whether you have a leak on your hands or not. The black numbers in your meter show water use in cubic metres while the red numbers show fractions of a cubic metre. Seeing whether the black numbers track with what is in your estimated water bills is how you can see whether there is a leak or not, as well as getting an idea of how much water you use and what it costs.

Are you having problems with your water supply? Sometimes we have problems with our water supply. Either we have low water pressure or we have no water at all. Fortunately there is a way of getting your water back without having to call your water supply. Check out our No Water in House guide to find out what to do.

South Staffs Water Complaints

magnifying over complaint form

The best way to put through your South Staffs Water complaint is to call the Account and Billing team on 0345 607 0456. This is the best way to initiate the complaints procedure.

Additionally, there is also a Minicom number for all types of complaints: 0192 261 8025.

If after calling those numbers, you remain unsatisfied about the resolution of your complaint you can write to the following address:

Customer Relations,
South Staffs Water,
Green Lane,
Walsall
WS2 7PD

If you decide to write a letter, you should include two paragraphs. The first paragraph should include the details of the issues that you’ve had with South Staffs Water. The second paragraph should explain what you want South Staffs Water to do about it.

We’ve split up the South Staffs Water complaints process into four steps to make it easier to follow.

South Staffs Water Complaints: Step 1

South Staffs Water hopes to solve all complaints within 5 working days ideally. However, depending on the complexity of the complaint, the waiting time could easily extend to 10 working days.

If after 10 working days, you have received no response from South Staffs Water, you are entitled to an automatic compensation payment of £30. You don't need to take any action to get the payment if South Staffs Water breaches its Guaranteed standards of service.

South Staffs Water Complaints: Step 2

Step 2 is to write another letter to the address listed above but make it out to the Service Delivery Team Manager. This is only necessary if your complaint hasn't been satisfactorily handled in the past steps.

Don't take your complaint to Ofwat! If you are dissatisfied with Severn Trent Water's response to your complaint, do not send your complaint to the water regulator Ofwat since they will not be able to help you. Ofwat only resolves complaints over anti-competitive behaviour. The correct body is the CCW.

South Staffs Water Complaints: Step 3

Step 3 is to reach out to the Consumer Council for Water (CCW). You must have completed all the previous steps listed above, before escalating your complaint outside the company. The CCW will want to see evidence that you fully followed the complaints procedure established by South Staffs Water before considering your complaint.

The Consumer Council For Water can be reached by calling 0300 034 2222, emailing [email protected] or writing a letter to:

Consumer Council for Water,
23 Stephenson Street,
Birmingham,
B2 4BH

South Staffs Water Complaints: Step 4

If the Consumer Council For Water does not resolve your complaint to your satisfaction, you may have recourse to an alternative dispute resolution organisation called the Water Redress Scheme (WATRS) for short. Be aware, that WATRS only handles a very small number of vetted complaints.

To contact WATRS, you can call 0207 520 3801 to request a copy of their guidance information, email [email protected] or write to:

WATRS
Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution,
