UK Power Networks
UK Power Networks is the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) for London; South East; and East England. It is owned by Cheung Kong Group (CKG), a company that operates in 54 different countries.
UK Power Networks’ distribution area covers the English capital, London, and many other large areas such as Brighton, Norwich and Cambridge, carry electricity to 8.1 million peoplw. This network is comprised of 46,000km of overhead lines, 138,000km of underground cables and more than 100,000 substations, creating employment for 5,000 people.
What is a substation?A substation is a place where high voltage electricty passes through a transformer that reduces the electrcity to low voltage electricty, making it safe to enter homes and businesses.
