History

Manchester's electricity requirements used to be fulfiled by the public sector company 'North West Electricity Board' (NORWEB), which was established in 1948. After the privatisation in 1990 through the Thatcher Government, the board's assets were transferred to become 'NORWEB plc'.

North Western Gas Board used to be the company resonsible for supplying the North West of England with gas; however, in 1973, the company became a region of the British Gas Corporation.
