Scottish Power boiler cover ensures that you don’t get left without heating or hot water should your boiler breakdown or malfunction. The supplier covers the bulk, if not all, of the costs of maintenance and repair when you sign up to one of its cover plans. Scottish Power boiler cover
There are two different services under the umbrella of Scottish Power boiler cover: Boiler Insurance and Boiler Care. The first covers the costs of boiler repair or replacement only; the second offers ongoing boiler maintenance as well as cover for repair and replacement. In total there are four plans, two each for both services.
Before we take a look at what’s covered by each plan, it’s important to note that you can only purchase a Scottish Power boiler cover product if you meet the following conditions:
- you are 18 years of age;
- you are a resident in the UK;
- you have a domestic boiler;
- your boiler is in good working conditions; and
- Your boiler is less than 15 years old at the start of your cover policy.
Insurance
The first set of Scottish Power boiler cover products comes under Boiler Insurance. This covers your boiler and its controls, including programmers, room thermostats and cylinder thermostats in the event of their breakdown.
With Scottish Power Boiler Insurance you’re paying for breakdown repairs and a one-time boiler replacement or credit that will go toward the purchase of one.
Let’s take a look at the available insurance plans.
Policy start date!Please note that your Scottish Power boiler cover will take effect a certain amount of time after you sign up. You cannot make a claim during that period of time unless you have moved from another Scottish Power Boiler Insurance of Boiler Care plan. Check your policy documents for exact details.
Boiler Insurance
The basic insurance plan is aptly titled Boiler Insurance. It’s a 12 month plan covering up to £1,500 for repairs to your boiler and controls (including programmers and thermostats), and up to £750 toward a new boiler. Here’s a summary of what is included.
- £1,500 for repairs to your boiler and controls.
- £750 toward a boiler replacement.
- Access to expert Gas Safe registered engineers.
This affordable Scottish Power boiler cover plan does not cover the cost of delivering and installing a new boiler, for which the policy holder is responsible. Nor does it include cover for central heating systems - i.e. radiators and valves.
You may have to pay an excess depending on which price plan you opt for, which is a minimum amount that you must pay in order to receive cover expenses when you make a claim. Any excess on a Boiler Insurance plan must be paid by direct debit.
Boiler & Radiator Insurance
The Boiler & Radiator Insurance plan, as suggested by the name, adds central heating repairs - i.e. radiators and valves - to your cover, on top of that which is already covered by the basic plan. Here’s what you get:
- £1,500 for repairs to your boiler and controls.
- £750 toward a boiler replacement.
- Access to expert Gas Safe registered engineers.
- Central heating repairs.
Please note that the cost of delivering and installing a new boiler is not covered by the amount reserved for purchasing it.
Monthly prices for boiler and radiator cover are marginally higher across all price plans than those for the basic insurance, resulting in a general yearly difference of around £20. Like the basic insurance, you may have to pay an excess depending on the price plan you choose.
Maintenance and care
The second set of Scottish Power boiler cover services comes under Boiler care. This not only covers the cost of replacing your boiler, but also provides ongoing maintenance support and repair, even after a boiler replacement. This extends to controls too, such as programmers, room thermostats and cylinder thermostats.
In addition, Boiler Care products include an annual service for your boiler whereby a service technician will conduct a boiler inspection on site.
Boiler & Service Care
The basic maintenance and care plan - Scottish Power Boiler Service & Care - provides boiler replacement cover to the tune of £750 along with an array of maintenance and support services. Maintenance services include an annual service and onsite visits; support services include a 24/7 helpline and remote support.
- Annual service for boiler maintenance.
- Onsite visits by Gas Safe Engineers if your boiler stops working or fails the annual service.
- A 24/7 support helpline.for remote support.
- Maintenance tips to keep it in good working condition.
- £750 toward a boiler replacement.

You won’t have to pay an excess for your claims, however, you may be charged a call out fee depending on the plan you select.
Boiler, Radiator & Service Care
The last of the Scottish Power boiler cover products provides all the same services as the Boiler & Service Care plan, plus maintenance and cover for your central heating systems - i.e. radiators and valves. As you might expect, this is the most expensive plan. Here are the details:
- Annual service for boiler maintenance.
- Onsite visits by Gas Safe Engineers if your boiler stops working or fails the annual service.
- A 24/7 support helpline.for remote support.
- Maintenance tips to keep it in good working condition.
- £750 toward a boiler replacement.
- Central heating system maintenance.
Like all other Scottish Power boiler cover plans, the cost of delivering and installing a replacement boiler is not included in the credit amount reserved for its purchase.
Scottish Power boiler cover exclusions: What isn’t covered?
As we’ve already referenced, the cost of delivering and installing a new boiler is not covered by any of the Scottish Power boiler cover products. Below you can find the full list of exclusions pertaining to both Boiler Insurance and Boiler Care:
Scottish Power boiler cover products will not cover:
- Delivery and installation of a new boiler.
- Damage to your boiler caused by sludge, limescale or corrosion.
- Any pre-existing boiler faults, problems or damage.
- Accidental boiler damage.
- LPG/oil/electricity heating systems.
- Any costs resulting from you not being able to use your boiler.
- The cost of upgrading your boiler or direct supply lines to meet changing industry requirements.

Scottish Power boiler cover reviews
It’s difficult to quantify and qualify reviews for Scottish Power boiler cover, simply because it’s difficult to distinguish between feedback scores for Scottish Power boiler cover products and Scottish Power as a whole. Additionally, it’s hard to verify the veracity of members of online review forums and their experiences with Scottish Power boiler cover products, where they do appear.
Having said that, it’s worth noting that the general trend of reviews of Scottish Power are decidedly negative on sites like Trustpilot and in independent customer surveys like that of Which?.

How do I cancel my Scottish Power boiler cover?
When you sign up to any Scottish Power boiler cover plan, you will have a 14 day cooling off period from the date you receive your policy documents in which you can cancel your contract and receive a full refund.
If you’ve run beyond the cooling off period and would like to cancel, you will not receive a refund for the time remaining on your policy and you may be charged for any Scottish Power boiler cover service that you have used.
